COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A classic American IPA with lots of floral punch and assertive hop presence. Hopped with Nugget, Palisade and Amarillo colored to a reddish hue thanks to Munich and Aromatic malts.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a ruby caramel color with a large khaki head. The aroma was fruity, floral and lightly piney hops. The flavor was bitter, tart, fruity and piney with a floral hop undertone and light sweet malts. The finish is short and hoppy. Nice.

10/7/08 - Draft at brewpub. Pours orange amber with foamy, off-white head, good lacing. Nose is pine and citrus hops with a good dose of caramel and toffee. Taste is moderately bitter to rather bitter with a good toffee and caramel background and lots of hop flavor, grapefruit, pine, floral notes, all towards the end with bitter and perfumy notes lingering well into the after. A great replacement/hold over until DD’s can return. Heck, I hope they keep this on the menu, too.

Really nice looking, rather dark and reddish with a lot of foam. Very hoppy nose. Creamy palate with lots of caramel and bold hops leading to a very dry finish. This was very nice.

Hand Bottle (That puzzl had left at the Blind Tiger. Thanks Andy!) Amber pour with a dense off white head. Odd aroma giving off resiny and fruity hop qualities- oily resins, tropical notes of mango and a squash-like hint, with a uric acid note in there. Funky. The body is creamy with mild carbonation (could be because it was hand bottled) Either way, the flavor gives off some tropical fruit hop flavors of peach, which is accompanied by an odd uric acidity (pissy, as Maxxdaddy described it) Citrusy notes come out as well with an oily piny finish. Although the alpha acids seemed a bit pissy and earthy, I rather enjoyed this IPA.

I wasn’t overly impressed with this IPA. In fact, it’s pretty average. There really wasn’t any one characteristic of this beer that truely stood out. It poured a dark amber color with a generous off-white head. There was some nice lacing around the edges of the glass. The aroma was mostly of pine and earth with some floral hops thrown in. The body and flavors were quite hoppy, but I think they used a bit too much malt. There was an overwelming character or caramel and earth. I think this IPA would have been better had they backed off the malt a bit. But it’s still a decently drinkable beer.

Thanks go to buffalohead for sharing this to start a small tasting at his house. It was mostly a run of the mill IPA but coming from Otto’s those were my expectations. As a way to tune the palate it worked perfectly. This is an above average example of the style but nothing spectacular in the end.

Aroma / Appearance - The thin off-white head was weak as it fought with the amber carbonated body. Woody hops and mellow oak chips waft through the air without gripping the nose like some aggressive IPAs.

Flavor / Palate - The profile is more hoppy than malty but fairly balanced. The finish sits gently on the throat. Without overwhelming the palate it has an easy going touch that lets you know you drank it recently. This is one of those typical lawnmower beers that you would drink on a warm summer day while grilling burgers.

Bottle. Good piney hop aroma. Clear dark amber colour. Big stable creamy tan head. High bitterness, clean and slightly rough. Caramelly maltiness.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber with a thick off-white head. Aroma of citrus, caramel malt, and grassy hops. Flavor of caramel malt, spicy grassy hops in the finish. Pretty basic IPA - drinkable and tasty. Can’t complain here. 6/4/7/4/14 [3.5/5]
