Poured muddy burnt brown with a small, dense, frothy, lightly tanned head which lasted very well. Aroma was of spiced cookies with cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, pepper, plums, figs, blueberries and rum & raisin chocolate. Flavor was of yeasty malts with a light bitterness, strong notes of tart blueberries, dates, currents, caramel, chocolate, brown sugar, cinnamon and a slightly acidic finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, an oily texture and a good length finish. bluevegie (2231), Perth, Australia

Second pour into the glass I managed to get a decent head but like the first one it didn’t stay around. Dried fruit mainly in the taste for me, some spice notes in there as well though not a lot, slight sweet alcohol burn and candy sugar. Overall a little disappointing for the style but at least they given it a try and hopefully can improve on the effort. Chrism86 (291), Melbourne, Australia
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 9, 2008 Pours a murky lightish brown with a rather none existent head. Aromas are quite reserved, dominated by banana and clove. There is also a slightly metallic character, which is a tad undesirable. Palate shows more of the same, banana and clove again dominant with mild carbonation and reasonably strong malt presence. Seems to lack penetration when compared to genuine belgian darks. Overall it is a rather mellow example of the style. I’d had it a few times prior to this rating and it isn’t anywhere near as good as i remembered it.
