A true Belgian, this rare treat boasts a magnificent whiff of yeasts and peppery spices along with a hearty presence of alcohol. Beautiful to look at, wonderful to smell and supremely good to drink. Quite reminiscent of Kasteel Blonde, a very good thing in my book. Excellent!

33cl bottle: Extremely brilliant and vibrant pure gold. Very large white head with a creamy mushroom top that continues to grow for several minutes after you pour. Carbonation release looks spritzy. "Typical" tripel aromas laced with a slight sea-shell aroma. Tons of table sugar, banana, touch of bubblegum, tart yellow fruits and light malt (pilsner malt). A definite "greenery" persists. Something that is slightly stale in the background. Perhaps some DMS in there too. Very lively carbonation cuts into the back of your throat a little. Hot alcohol and sweet middle. Very spicy yeast character, as well as dried spice, becomes a little harsh when forced through by the alcohol. A little hop character pops up here and there. Malty sweet finish with stale old hops and alcohol

Strong, sweet, relatively simple blonde ale. Affiliated with the excellent Oud Beersel brewery, which makes this one a head-scratcher. Pours bright golden with a big, frothy, white head. Nose of oranges, candy, yeast. Very sweet flavor with mild bitterness, some alcohol showing through, lively carbonation. Cloying. Unfortunate. I wish they were promoting their lambics half as hard as they’re pushing this one around town.

Looks good - rich amber, and a thin head. Goes quickly downhill after that. Alcoholic and unsubtle. Boozy.

On tap at ZBF 08. Lovely clear gold colour with lasting ivory head. some lager malt on aroma, bit of toffee. Good condition. Doesn’t taste of 9.5% at all. Drinkable, just a little cardboardy. Oh and hilarious as the guy at the stand was so enthusiastic he explained the entire beer to me in Flemish before I told him I was English and didn’t understand a word.

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2011 Had this at ZBF Sint Niklaas, Belgium, 02-03-08 Pours with great clarity and a rather wonderful golden colour with just a slim white head. This beer seems to work on a couple of levels with the spices sitting lazily in the mouth as though they haven’t been totally incorporated into the beer and the other level sees a nice beer, quite soft mouthfeel with just a hint of alcohol, sweetness and malt. Some sweetness, cereal and a honey rush. Tasty and slips down well with a chunk of parmesan. A6 A3 T8 P4 Ov14 3.5

Bottle, at ZBF 2006. Gold, good white head and moderate condition. Faintly malty nose, gentle sweet malt and a slight spiciness in the mouth tempered by a flowery but bitter yeastiness which lingers in the finish.
