Framboise is a classic among the Belgian beers created by adding whole fresh raspberries (250 g/l)to a blend of young and old lambic. Framboise Oud Beersel is the missing link between beer and wine and is served chilled in flute glasses.

Brownish caramel red with a thin pinkish white cover. Aroma is raspberry puree, thinly oaky. Taste is tart, oaky, then nice raspberries.

375ml bottle split with a friend. I was expecting this to be sour but it was more tart if that makes any sense. It smelled like raspberry preserves, very jammy with only the slightest hint of muddy wet hay and barnyard. The taste was heavily raspberry but not sweet or cloying, good but I preferred their kriek. 375 ml bottle from Plaza Liquors - Pours a clear deep red color with a 1/2 finger thick light pink head. Very light lacing that doesn’t last long. Has a dusty berry aroma with a tad bit of yeast in there. Flavor is slightly tart berries. Palate is fairly soft and smooth. Medium body. A very pleasant beer.

375, corked and baled. Thanks, SuzyGreenberg! Wow, this was without a doubt the hide-in-plain-sight sneak attack surprise and delight beer of the night. Every one of us has always been quite aware of Beersel, of course, but none had rated this and it really made us all sit up and take notice. Pours a bright ruby/garnet, positively sparkles. Thin grayish film for a head. Huge beautiful nose of raspberry fields at the peak of bloom on a hot summer day. Awesome. Crisp fizzy medium body. Tons of beautiful fresh fruit flavor. Mild, not overbearing, gentle finish. Beautifully crafted.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2011 VERY berry. Strong raspberry flavour overwhelms the lambic character, but might mellow with age. Still a nice one.

Pours scarlet-tinged brown into a tumbler. Dirty pink head with good retention leaves spotty sheets as it recedes to coat surface. Raspberry and lemon aromas. Crushed raspberry seeds upfront with a sour, lasting raspberry finish.

Raspberry juice straight up. Little to no sour. Lambic not strong. A beer for those who enjoy juice. Can only drink a little at a time. It is too sweet.

UPDATED: NOV 29, 2008 (10/11/08) Bottle drank in my hostel room in Chicago. Clear red color with a quickly-diminishing pinkish off-white head. Aroma of raspberry juice, some sugary notes and a bit of barnyard. Sweetish-sourish flavor of raspberry, faint notes of sugar and a bit of brett. Medium-bodied. Not as good as their Kriek and Gueuze but still nice.

Ruby-brown color with little head dissipating quickly to nothing. Nice fresh-smashed raspberry and malt nose. Strong tart seedy-raspberry taste. Not bad, actually quite good, but missing a little of the interesting depth I got with the Liefmans and Lindemans.
