Framboise is a classic among the Belgian beers created by adding whole fresh raspberries (250 g/l)to a blend of young and old lambic. Framboise Oud Beersel is the missing link between beer and wine and is served chilled in flute glasses.

[sampled at Hopleaf, Chicago] Very sweet sugary aroma, very fruity. (kind of odd how it seems to overpower the acid/funk character?) Acidic flavors initially, lots of tart/sweet fruit. Perhaps a bit too much residual sweetness for me, it comes off a bit syrupy.

Pours a hazy pinkish rose hue with a small white head. Minimal snake-like lacing noted. Aromas of fresh, tart raspberries, funky Belgian yeast, and lightly acrid barnyard notes are incredibly inviting. Flavors are sweet and sour, with soft raspberry accompanied by a sharp touch of citric acid. There is an earthen mineral component that seems to really work well in this one. Medium-light bodied, well carbonated, and incredibly refreshing. This is a solid fruit lambic.

Pours like a a hazy dawn, sunburned red/purple with no head. The wild yeast and raspberries make for a great well balanced aroma, more so than in other types of fruit lambics. I find this to be better than their kriek. Really easy drinking without being overally fruity. I like the tart and bitterness of the raspberries... really a nice natural raspberry flavor while still being able to show the sourness of the yeast. Really nice fruit lambic and I actually just got a seed stuck in my teeth!

Draft @ BSP, Atlanta. Pours a very hazy berry red with dense but small white cap, some intricate lacing. Nose is lovely tart raspberries with a jam sweetness with some mild musty yeast undertones. Initially tart like a flemish sour on the palate, but melding nicely through funky barnyard notes to a smooth, rich flavored yogurt like finish. Delightfully tart and thirst-quenching, definitely moreish. A nice lambic.

Draft at Max’s 72 Hour Belgian Beer Fest. Muddy ruby. Funky fruits with tart berries being dominant. Taste is more sour berry but not too extreme. Then again, not like Lindeman’s either. Tangy raspberry, soft berry jam and hints of wet wood. Body is light, dry and has a soft acidic feel. Ends with more tart berries, some woody notes, and yeasty funk.

375 caged and corked bottle. Pours a dark red/purple/ruby with a bright pine and white head. Sweeter aroma of crushed raspberry concentrate with just a hunt of funk. The dirty funk comes through much more on the tongue than on the nose. The raspberry and barnyard mix well on the tongue.Nice balance of sweet and tart. Lively carbonation. Finishes with a mix of tart raspberry skin and a touch of lacto funk. A very nice fruit lambic.

Apple-like hue with tints of deep red and pink. Earthy, funky, yeasty nose. Big aromas of prune. Tingly, sparkly carbonation. Sweet, sticky base. Evident raspberry from start to finish. Sugary-sweet malts and residual fruit sweetness. Flowers in the background. Midish tartness; wanted more.

UPDATED: MAY 30, 2010 On tap at Max’s. Orange-red pour with a thick white head. Funky sour milk aroma with lots of raspberries. Sour raspberry taste with lots of cream and milk. Not as sour as other lambics, but very smooth and enjoyable. I liked it a lot.
