Commercial Description:
Oud Beersel Kriek Lambic from Brouwerij Oud Beersel is a classic among Belgian beers. Created by adding whole fresh cherries to young lambic, which provides both seasoning and sparks another fermentation resulting in a product of great complexity. It has the acidity of champagne, the bouquet and delicate flavor of cherries, and balance of almondy dryness. Oud Beersel Kriek is the missing link between beer and wine.

DISCLAIMER: This is a special export version, initially made by Frank Boon, but it is continued by the new owners of Oud Beersel. It is different as it is pasteurised and some sugar was added, this to preserve the fruit flavour which normally disappear after 6 months. So if you had a Kriek from Oud Beersel, please check whether you had the "Oude Kriek" variant or the this version for export only.

375 ml bottle poured into a flute glass. Pours a cranberry color with big frothy pink head, lots of bubbles shooting up in there! Aroma of tart dark cherries and slight vinegar. Taste is cherry juice, slightly tart and acidic. Very carbonated and lively mouthfeel. My first experience with a lambic, and I’m interested to try some of the better ones. But I’m intrigued for sure!

A weak pop upon opening which worries me. Pours a deep reddish purple with a small sudsy white head with a pink tinge. Smell is straightforward cherry pie filling. Taste is sweet cherries with a slight tart/sourness towards the finish, I can’t help but think cherry cough medicine. Carbonation is there but I do believe it’s a bit flat as I suspected. Not my favorite Kriek - their Oude Kriek much better - not as sweet.

Poured into a wine glass. Pours a nice cherry red with a fluffy pinkish head that quickly disintegrates. Aroma is tart lemons and black cherry. Flavor is sour cherries and ascorbic acid, with some cardboard oxidation and a little sweetness. Not the most complex lambic but still solid.

Poured a hazy reddish brown (more red than brown) color with a pink, fizzy head. The aroma was a touch of funk with plenty of tart cherry. The flavor was only slightly funky with some light spice up front that reminded me of cinnamon and then tons of tart cherry from midpalate to the finish. Highly acidic. Enjoyable.

375ml bottle dated 05/28/2011 so this is a 2006 or 2008 possibly. Its got a good lemon and glue aroma with a hint of cherries and sugar. I like it but it is not what I would expect from a kriek lambic. The flavor is more glue and sugary cherries, not sour at all but oddly enjoyable. No hint of funk or barnyard to this at all. 375 bottle BB 8-23-2011. Pours an unclear purplish red with a thin frothy light purple/pink head. Strong mashed cherry aroma, cedar, like chocolate-chip cherry ice cream, sour yogurt, fresh and airy, butter. Flavor is heavy bing cherries, full flavored, medium sweet, light acidity, lightly buttery like cookie dough, a bit tangy, fairly woody, creamy and juicy, a sophisticated cherry pie. Quick candy finish. Medium/full bodied with a full mouthful, exactly like wedding punch and sherbet. Great cherry flavor, but its a catch-22 as the added sugar is also noticeable.

Bottle 375ml. Pours a cranberry body with a pink fuzzy head that disperses to a thin lacing around the glass. Sour cherries, balsamic vinegar, and a light woodiness with underlying tones of acetic acid and cherry pit and skins. Soft cherry and more vinegar notes, very low acidity with a lush cherry flavor. A nice dry lambic can’t wait to make some blends with the stout next to me.
