Oud Beersel Kriek Lambic from Brouwerij Oud Beersel is a classic among Belgian beers. Created by adding whole fresh cherries to young lambic, which provides both seasoning and sparks another fermentation resulting in a product of great complexity. It has the acidity of champagne, the bouquet and delicate flavor of cherries, and balance of almondy dryness. Oud Beersel Kriek is the missing link between beer and wine.

DISCLAIMER: This is a special export version, initially made by Frank Boon, but it is continued by the new owners of Oud Beersel. It is different as it is pasteurised and some sugar was added, this to preserve the fruit flavour which normally disappear after 6 months. So if you had a Kriek from Oud Beersel, please check whether you had the "Oude Kriek" variant or the this version for export only.

One of the few lambics Available at Retail and AL, and it is a poor example of the style. Aroma is sweet dominated by cherry and 7-up. Taste is sugary sweet with no sour and only the slightest hint of barnyard. Palate is a nice dry and is about the only fulfilled expectation of a Kriek.

Pours a raspberry red with a bubbly pink head. Wood, cherry, berry. Malt, bread, baking spice. Tart finish, not overwhelming.

It pours deep purple with a small pink head. The aroma has rich pie filling cherry, mild tartness (way more sweet) and vanilla. It has a medium crisp body with some smoothness too and light carbonation. The taste has a lot of cherries, light spice, hint of sourness and is pretty refreshing. Nice

Pours clear red with a quickly fading pink head. Aroma is cherry and Cabernet. Flavour is sweet and tart like a cherry rhubarb pie.

Shared 12.7 oz. bottle. Pours a dark red with a pinkish/purplish head. Aroma of red wine and cherries. Taste is both tart and sweet, but not overly so. More cherries, red wine, and oak notes. Decent, but not quite as good as the non-export version.

Note: had the original in Brussels, which was our first lambic; Aroma: exactly like cherry pie; Appearance: ruby red with pink head that dissipates slowly; Taste: sweet and tart; not as good as I remembered; Palate: medium body with long, sweet finish; Overall: decent but too sweet; would probably not buy again.

I had no clue Oud Beersel was making a sweetened Kriek... I bought this assuming it was the Oude Kriek, huh?!?!?
The beer pours a very deep red with the palest of pink head that does the rise and fall thing but never really disappears completely.

The aroma is lightly sweet, itís got lots of cherry, some nuttiness, a good amount of leather & oak earthiness & just a light hint of funk.

The flavor is interesting, itís certainly tart and has a lot of cherry to it. There is a bit of an earthy bitterness mid to late palate & itís got some almond like nuttiness. It finishes surprisingly dry for as sweet as the beer is.
Itís far sweeter than something Iíd normally like from a Kriek Lambic, but this really is a reasonably complex and flavorful beer behind the sugary parts, sort of like those semi-sweet old Eyelenbosch fruit lambics that are still floating around.

Bottle thanks to Rainer. Pours a hazy pink with small white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong cherry pith, funk, oak, yogurt. Medium mouth, tart cherry, funky, light finish, very good.

Definitely cared for the Oude version more than this, though itís been a long while since I had that one. This is perhaps fruitier, but one note, and a little musty like the tripel. Hints of cheese. Still enjoyable, but not for the coin.

Bottle to tulip Consummation: Sweet cherry wine. Adjunct: Almost cloying, but not quite, ends dry, fruity.
