Oud Beersel Kriek Lambic from Brouwerij Oud Beersel is a classic among Belgian beers. Created by adding whole fresh cherries to young lambic, which provides both seasoning and sparks another fermentation resulting in a product of great complexity. It has the acidity of champagne, the bouquet and delicate flavor of cherries, and balance of almondy dryness. Oud Beersel Kriek is the missing link between beer and wine.

DISCLAIMER: This is a special export version, initially made by Frank Boon, but it is continued by the new owners of Oud Beersel. It is different as it is pasteurised and some sugar was added, this to preserve the fruit flavour which normally disappear after 6 months. So if you had a Kriek from Oud Beersel, please check whether you had the "Oude Kriek" variant or the this version for export only.

One of the few lambics Available at Retail and AL, and it is a poor example of the style. Aroma is sweet dominated by cherry and 7-up. Taste is sugary sweet with no sour and only the slightest hint of barnyard. Palate is a nice dry and is about the only fulfilled expectation of a Kriek.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks zvikar. Nice red with pinkish hues. Pleasant aroma of cherries and marzipan. Sweet and sourish flavor with cherries. Medium-bodied.

This pours a ruby color from the bottle with a big foamy pink head...it looks fantastic. Smells of cherry and sweet oak, and you definitely get some tartness in there. The palate ends a bit dry and the oak gives it a strange finish but solid overall

Poured into a sample cup from a bottle: Pours purple like grape juice with the biggest head Iíve ever seen on a beer. It was impossible to pour it without having 4x the head than the level of the beer, way over carbonated. Aroma of grapes, feet, plastic, and poison. Taste is every bit as bad. Iím glad I survived.

Pours hazy dark red with a small light pink head that settles to a ring and has good lacing. Aroma of cherries and some sweetness with a little oak. Taste dark cherries and fruitiness with some sweetness, mild oak and a bit tart and grassy. Finishes semi dry. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Not very complex and a bit too candy sweet for my taste.

375ml bottle pours deep crimson color with a 2 finger light pink head that leaves some spotted lacing. Aroma is dominated by cherries with hints of yeast. Taste is a cherry tartness with a malty sweetness and a very dry finish. Light to medium body with generous carbonation. Good brew for the style and recommended.

375 green bottle, corked, caged. Red pour, pretty clear. Pink foam, actually a LOT of foam for the style, surprisngly clingy. Nose has cotton candy and cherries. Taste has a big juicy, sharp cherry start, a little sweetness. Ends with some wood and dryness. Not as complex as I was hoping, but OK.

With a sharp aroma of cherries and a deep red appearance this kriek has all the sweetness but non of the sour tones of a typical Belgian beer. Excellent flavour and a little resonating flavour lingering on the tongue.

Bottle best before 25/04/2016, so I imagine itís from 2011. Pours a deep ruby purple with bubbly reddish white head. Aroma is mild funk with overlying sweet cherry and wine grape musk. Taste follows, really sweet and very little sour. Bubbly carbonation and syrupy mouth. Kind of a bit disappointed, but not as bad as a Lindemannís at least.
