4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
A deep hazy golden colored. Nice head and sticky lace. Nose of apples, sweat, hints of cheese, and sourness. Very effervecent, crisp, cheesey, funky sour flavors, grain and hints of iron. Very complex, flavorful and drinkable. Great Geuze

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Terrible news: as Oakes posted in the forum a few days ago, the brewery is closing. Fortunately I had one in the fridge already and felt compelled to taste it (on this showing Iíll have to see if I can get more).
Impresseive initial pour, extreme effervessence, cloudy orangey body with floaties and thick foam (although this soon gives way. Sour pungent nose, cheesey (but not as strong as Chapeau Cuvee) with some peach fruitiness and a touch of oak. Palate is sharp and spritzy but pretty easy drinking. A little winey, dry cider like at front, woody middle, some sugary sweetness and good dry puckering sourness in the finish. Finishes off very pleasantly, a little sour in the aftertaste but some balancing sweetness.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Big granny smith apple nose. Palate is light and bone dry with a touch of iron and quenching acidity. Similar to a sparkling fino sherry. I expected a little more barnyard flavors.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
2000: Spicy and sweet with a distinctive glue taste. It did have the thickest head out of the fest. Dry finish.

UPDATED: NOV 13, 2003 Tart and complex, horseblanket, fresh manure, old cobwebs, citric, hints of pepper and wine grapes. Lord, it's a tragedy that this is gone for good!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: APR 7, 2003 sweaty cheese, citric howls and barnyard leather in the nose..cloudy orange with a stable white covering...the sourness is there but it doesn't tweak your mind..its subtle but powerful at the same time..very woody, cheesy, leathery..lots of oak notes and although its a very tasty gueuze..i think it could use more tartness and a stronger brett profile.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 28, 2009 Hazy beige-amber, but with some sparkle. Thin head. The aroma has the usual cork/leather/horseblanket stuff, plus a nice herbal overtone (sage, savoury) and lots of wood as well. It starts cheesy, with some slight phenolic notes, has a malty but firm middle. The finish is semi-sweet for a gueuze, fairly cheesy, and with only a little bit of tartness. Very approachable.

Leather and cork in the aroma and the acidic smell that warns of a tartness to follow. Complex body with hints of leather, finishes tart. Very nice geuze.
