Geuze is a classic among the Belgian Ales, following spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels (no yeast or sugar added), young and old Lambic are blended; which results in a dry, tart and fruity wine like taste. Oud Beersel Geuze Ale is the white sparkling wine of the ale world.

Dit was persoonlijk voor mij een van de mindere oude geuzes dat ik al gedronken heb.

Appearance: pours with a large white head, the beer is a very hazy gold color with particles floating in it Aroma: red wine, sweet, tart, cherry, wood, smells pretty good Taste: the wood comes thru, sourness, hints of sweetness, egg, some wildness Palate: fizzy, leaves mouth dry, light mouthfeel, Overall: a good beer, maybe not as complex as this style is usually but delicious none the less, smells good too

Light to medium sourness. A bit harsher than the lindemans CR, but still light enough to introduce people to the style.

Creamy earth and mushrooms, dank socks, and barn wood compliment bright lemony citrus notes with nuances of dried pineapple gradate into peaches and apricots which twist into a fusion of white, green, and red grapes, while herbal-green melon tones appear, glowing through yogurt as the fruit influence sweetens to notions of apples rounding out, all on a silky smooth medium light body with building weight as the restrained carbonation dissipates, creamy sour tones melt into the palate

Controlled sourness, round pronounced complexities, solid intensity

375ml Bottle as a Christmas gift:
Strong with sour notes, strong citrus & a few other fruits such as apple & pear. Definitely a sour one with some yeast & tart. It also seems quite acidic with hints of grapes, almost like a white wine on the nose with some spice & further hints of citrus.
Golden to orange with a 1cm, bubbly white head & strong visible carbonation. Head goes fairly quickly though.
Funk & tart to start, a huge amount of citrus with some apple, orange & pear. Quite in your face with white grapes coming through too. Again almost seems like a white wine in places.
Highly carbonated with a strong tang on top of a medium body & a very dry, sour mouthfeel that is crisp too.

Only my second ever gueuze style one but it was quite a nice beer, definitely one that started to grow on me as I worked my way down the glass. Perhaps too sour for my tastes initially but from the half way point on wards it started to go down very easily.

Bottle, 2002 vintage, as "Oud Beersel Oud Gueze Vielle." Thanks to KyotoLefty. Ripe fruity nose, slight oxidation, light raisins. Clear dark straw color. Moderately sweet, even caramel emerges, small sour fruitiness in mid and final. Thin body with tiny astringency. 12 years, and it’s a shame that this one is past its prime.

Bouteille 37,5 cl @Delhaize.
