Geuze is a classic among the Belgian Ales, following spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels (no yeast or sugar added), young and old Lambic are blended; which results in a dry, tart and fruity wine like taste. Oud Beersel Geuze Ale is the white sparkling wine of the ale world.

375 ml bottle. Pours a slightly veiled pale golden with a resilient, thick white head. Aroma is tart, unripe fruit and green apple. Flavor is malty, oldish, some metal and fruits. Finish is tart, some herbal bitterness. Very dry, very oldish and dusty...unripe fruits. Lingering dryness and dustiness. Medium body, average to strong carbonation.

Bottle - Vintage 2010 - White grape, tart fruity apricot and pear. Cloudy gold with a decent white head. White wine and pear notes dominate, Tart but not too much and quite easy drinking for a Geuze. Very nice.

Bottle @ Home, 2012 vintage. Pours light golden with a white head. Aroma of light sourness, barnyard, leather, wine grapes, lemon. Flavor is nicely sour, leather, dusty, wet wood, barn, citrus, lemonpeel, a touch of white sugar-like sweetness. Medium body, soft carbonation, light acidic finish. 2281114

37.5cl Bottle - Sterk Avondverkoop, Amsterdam Typical Geuze aroma, but verging on the floral. Nice bouquet. Flavour is sweet for a geuze, but not too sweet. Just right. Nicely balanced. The bubbles tickle your tongue. Overall I liked this one a lot. For the price (roughly 4 euro) this is great value.

I have had this beer many times over the years. I always enjoyed this Oude Geuze and thought it competed well with all the other common versions of the style. A had a particularly older bottle shared by Infra (maybe about 8 years old) once that did not age well at all. However, I also had a bottle that I aged about the same time and it was not at all as oxidized. This particular rating is for a blind tasting of the beer that was about a 2 year old bottle. It did not score significantly different from Boon Oude Geuze or Tilquin.
