Geuze is a classic among the Belgian Ales, following spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels (no yeast or sugar added), young and old Lambic are blended; which results in a dry, tart and fruity wine like taste. Oud Beersel Geuze Ale is the white sparkling wine of the ale world.

Aroma is subtly wild, with a sweet dryness and tartness. A little vinegar in the aroma too. Poured with a large head of tony bubbles. Murky orange yellow, letting through a good amount of light. Taste is sweet but acrid, finishing very dry and tart.

A good introductory gueuze with delightfully tart and dry notes. Zest citrus, light floral notes. Earthy and musty with a well balanced bitterness. Overly sweet malt base. Nice golden orange body with a steady, effervescent carbonation stream.

Bottle @ Elfo’s Pub, Perugia, Italy. Pours with a clear dark yellow colour, medium persistent white rocky head. Aroma is the usual gueuze, with clear notes of basement aromas, leather and fruit; very composed and elegant. Taste is medium sweet, slightly sour. Little to medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation.

375 ml bottle, best before 7/03/2032 stamped on label.
Hazy dark golden, thick, fluffy, lasting white head, nice lace.
Aroma is vinous, lemon, green apple, yeast, soft cheese.
Flavor is tart, lemony, green apple, brett. Light sweetness keeping it all reigned in. Not super complex, but still tasty.

Poured from a 375ml bottle, thanks Mike. Malty, light soreness, oxidized, musty, fruity, cheesy. Solid, but not as tasty as I would have thought for a geuze.

Aroma is sour and earthy. Taste is fruity and malty with a super barn taste. Let us keep it short here. This is a killer gueuze!

Clear golden color with a pretty foam head. Sour lambic funky smell with less cheese and feet than other gueuzes have. Little over carbonated, with a fresh sour funky taste and a cheese note. The aftertaste is dry and leaves a sourish taste and an almost tart hint. The beer is a bit over ambition in its carbonation. The side flavors don’t develop very much, but this is still an awesome drinking beer, since it’s not insanely complex.

Golden brown colour, cloudy with a slight off white head. Vinegary sour nose, slightly sparkling in the glass. Sour to taste, a little banana on the finish.

Regular 37,5cl bottles, latest sampled bb04/2033. Thirst quenching, young and green apple-inflected Oude Geuze, offering fresh lemonade and cider spritz instead of complex funk or bretty depths. Musty aroma, pollen and lemin blossom stored in a damp cellar, atop fresh Granny Smith juice and lemonade. Young cheese rind, whey connects lactic elements in aroma and the dry juicy aspects of taste. Mouthfeel as ever very quenching and champagne-spritzy. Now that it’s more widely available in larger supermarkets, certainly the go-to all-purpose Oude Geuze - curious about what the 6% will do in aged samples over 3yrs.
