4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Classic ’oude kriek’ saved from oblivion by the guys who took over this old lambic brewery and ’geuzestekerij’ in Beersel. Medium thick and moussy head consisting of tiny bubbles, pinkish off-white on the top and gradually becoming more pink downwards, relatively stable; colour a clear and deep, beautiful purplish ruby red, turning hazy with deposit, as custom for the style. Aroma of pure lambic tartness and fresh sour cherries, further impressions of redcurrant, elderberries, lemon juice, wet hay, barnyard, earth, vanilla-like tannins, fruit yoghurt, musty cellar, wine vinegar. The mouth cavity is quickly drained dry due to the acidity and the champenoise fizz, though it remains, in all, quite gentle and mild for this style, lemony but more lactic and fruit sourishness, obviously the genuine sour cherries steeped in it; fruitiness à gogo, esters abound, apple, red berries, blood orange, all perfectly mixed together and cleansing the palate. Yeastiness and lambic funkiness underly this parade of fruits, finish long, sour and dry, a bit woody, cherry stone astringency but elegant, not too harsh, with a very subtle alcohol warmth and a hint of old leafy hops without effectively becoming bitter; it is the lemon juice acidity, however, which lasts the longest. The overall impression is one of authenticity, a refreshing and elegant, pure fruitiness and the nobility of old lambic perfectly paired with the sharpness and vivacity of young lambic. Totally true to its style and a very well-balanced example of it.

Great real deal kriek. Has that "stale" taste that real krieks tend to have. Fairly sour w/ moderate cherry taste and smell.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle to glass. Pours a slight hazy pinkish light red color with a fizzy white pinkish head, and chunks of sediment. Aroma is dry, tart, cherry. Flavor is potently sour with sweet tart cherries. Light in body with a fizzy mouthfeel and a long lingering cherry tart. Delicious.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 16, 2014 500ml bottle served in a Morte Subite chalice.
A: Pours a deep amber to violet color forming a big bubbled aired fizzy ping head. Medium retention and a thin bubbled layer that lasts for long time. Almost no lacings left
S: Fruit and tart. Cherry juice wi notes of metallic carbonation and Lambic yeasts
T: Follows the nose. Slightly sweet upfront, intense cherry tartness. Overall dry taste with. Rust metal finish
M: Light body and high carbonation. Very smooth mouth sensation to a Kriek beer. It’s a tart but not extremely acid beer. Aftertaste is mainly tart with metallic notes
O: Absolutely drinkable. Excellent quality Belgian Kriek which can be easily compared with a Cantillon or a Drie Fonteinen

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Moderate pink head. Sour smell. Taste is moderately sour but not mouth puckering. No real sweetness and only a hint of cherries. Could have used a bit more fruit up front but the beer is complex and rewarding.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
375ml bottle from St. Veronus. Ruby red body with giant deep rose head, possibly the prettiest beer I’ve ever been served. No sweetness on the nose at all, cherry, barnyard funk, some wood notes present as well- wine like. Tartness blends flawlessly with the carbonation level. Tasted side by side with Mort Subite’s Kriek offering and it really emphasized the deep cherry flavoring opposed to a sweet cherry flavoring.

wish list cross-off from the Jug Shop in SF. i’m really diggin the balance of tartness and cherry flavor that was slightly lacking in the (regular)Cantillon Kriek i just enjoyed. quite tart up front, fizzy feel, gorgeous dark red color, and a very pleasant flavor. well done."
