Oud Beersel Oude Kriek

’05 Vintage pours red in color wiht sour cherry and malty aromas. Cherry flavors with a sourness that’s almost grand cru like. Some oaky flavors around the edges of my mouth and warming as it goes down my throat.

Cherry-red with a medium pink head. Aroma of freshly baked raspberry muffin/cake. Fruity taste is fronted by cherries but also contain elements of all kinds of fruits in the berries families. Some oak/wood in there too. By "real krieks" (non-sweetened) standard this one has medium acidity and medium sourness. A lot less funky than say a Cantillon or a Hanssens. Body lack vigour. I’ve had it much much better overseas but the batch we got in quebec in early 2007 just isn’t cutting it. This rating is for the last batch. Not a bad beer at all but doesn’t compare to the above mentioned classics. I dream of a Kriek creek.

Murky red color with a fine lasting pinkish head. Nice tart cherry aroma with characteristic lambic notes of wood, grapefruit and tart vinegar. Dominating tart woody flavor with sour cherries and lemon notes. Dry mouthfeel with a bit of fruit sweetness in the finish. A marvelous kriek, very tart yet balanced.

Bottle. Pink high and long lasting head. Hazy red body. Hoppy aroma with just a hint of cherries. More grape fruit flavor than cherries. Or maybe sour cherries if something like that exist.

bottle. red color. cherry aroma. lots of cherry taste. sweet and a bit mild. goes down easy.

A deep, ruby body under an explosive, fluffy head of strawberry ice cream. Ancient, funky aroma of moldy basement carpeting and long-lost Chuck Taylors... revealing sour cherry coughdrops and the used bubble gum that Jukkabro stuck to the underside of his Finnish table. Cheek-pinching tartness begins a flavor that is mostly unwashed cherries, coated in a soft haze of dirt. Red wine follows with a finish akin to licking salt from tin. Overzealous carbonation dries the flavor and distends my belly, leaving a wake of gas and acid. 1200 beers and I still feel like Lambics are some sort of a cruel Belgian joke.

Dark red colored, medium sized pink head. Mildly cloudy aroma. Aroma is rich with sour cherries and slight and good sweetness, again this good slight bubble gum comes up. Medium bodied. Flavor has milder cherries than in aroma, good sourness with fruits in there too. Aftertaste lasts with sourness. Good and balanced lambic!
