Part of RateBeer Top 50 Belgium challenge. I canít say I love gueuze, but I like that itís interesting - who can forget the sensation of trying it for the first time ("This is beer?!")! Orange, hazy, pretty good head. Aroma and flavor are textbook. For an unbalanced style, itís a balanced version of it. This is right up there for the top Iíve had in the style.

Pours bright orange, slightly cloudy and sparkling with a delicious plume of bubbles. This stuff is ALIVE!!! Smells very fruity (stonefruit) with some estery funk tartness and some oakiness reminiscent of a nice Cuvťe. Tastes like apricots, champagne and sour lemons, but the earthiness from the yeasts brings it all under control after a few seconds and then dissipates into a long, dry and tart finish. The carbonation is very playful and it almost dissolves on your tongue the same way as a Prosecco or Champagne. Outstanding, my first born child will be named after this beer.

Bottle, BBE 20/12/22, 01/11/14. Pours a golden orange with a large, stylish white head. Aroma is apple, appleskin, sour, some barnyard earthiness. Taste is very dry, appel, earthy, somewhat sour - no Cantillon. A lot of appleskin, earthiness, some vinegar. Complex. Surprisingly full with high carbonation. Superb drinkability.

375 ml bottle (2010/2011 written on the neck label) from Les Vignerons. Dark golden yellow, perfectly clear, with a small, creamy and moderately persistent white head. Pungent and perfumy, but itís very hard to describe the aroma, so many components are still unknown to me. Sour black cherries definitely, generic fruits under spirit, bubblegum and lots of leather. A hint of oaky and woody notes as well. Lactic upfront, slightly astringent and then pretty damn tart. Iím not sure if the correct word is tart or sour, but it feels more tart to me. Nice zinginess on the palate, making it relatively easy to drink. Solid and spot on dryness. The aftertaste really linger forever. Fruity, slightly puckering and tart. Lively carbonation, light to medium body, creamy texture. Very interesting and tasty.

When I met a young Wallonian guy in Brussels in 2007, a friend of Yvan De Baets of the Brasserie de la Senne, and he told me he intended to start a lambic brewery, I was admittedly a bit sceptic. But he persisted and see, here was the first result, since May 2011, a geuze initially only made with Lindemans, Boon and Cantillon lambics. Cream white, stable head, hazy orange blonde colour. The aroma has all the funkiness, esteriness and complexity you would expect from a true geuze, with hay, gooseberry, wood, green apple, wine vinegar, sweat, sour cream, barnyard... Mellow fresh sour taste with refreshing lemon touch, quite soft mouthfeel with less sharp carbonation than usual for the style, tart, complex enough and finishing long and dry with woody hints. Has further improved since then and now stands equal to all the traditional geuzes we know and love.

375ml bottle served in a tulip glass. Best before 05.03.2022. A: Nice bottle art. Simple but beautiful label in a corked bottle. Pours a hazy orange color forming a small, bubbled and quite fizzy white head. Medium to small retention and only very few lacings left in the glass S: Very fruity in the nose. Strong notes of apples, pears, white grapes. Apple vinegar, pale malts and a quite earthy and metallic Lambic end T: Funky, dry and sour. Very fruity. Strong notes of green apples, pears, green grapes. Sour. Notes of pale malts. Dry and sour end M: Light body. Good carbonation. Sour and very fruity aftertaste O: Excellent drinkability. Excellent Gueuze. Classic [ BA Review @ 6/13/2014 ]

Pours hazy amber with a small white head. Aromas of tart green apples, slight vinegar and some yeast. Taste is very sour up front, green apples and more vinegar. Slightly yeasty. Great balanced textbook gueuze!

BE CAREFUL WHEN OPENING THIS! I untwisted the cage and set it on my desk. Before I could even touch the cork, it shot off with a loud POP and hit my ceiling. This is a review of the 2013-2014 bottle. Appearance: Hazy darker shade of orange with a light white film of bubbles on the surface. No lacing. Smell: I get this odd smell of popcorn. It is followed by a familiar musty cellar smell. Kudos for having something new...never smelled popcorn in beer before. Taste: Strong sour apple flavor, like green Jolly Ranchers. Quickly this is taken over by funky old house...if that were a flavor. Then I get some of the popcorn. Mouthfeel: Very dry and tart feeling. A sipper. Overall: Itís a very good Gueuze that already tastes like it has a good deal of age on it. While itís possible to drink it fresh, It has a "best before" date of 08/01/2024 on the bottle. I will revisit this beer somewhere down the line when it has aged out some more. That "popcorn" flavor and aroma is very strange. It doesnít taste bad, it just tastes odd. Un-aged I would not drink another bottle.

750 ml bottle. 6%. BB 11/12/2020. From a webshop long time ago.
Cloudy slightly reddish golden colour with a tiny white head. Vinegar, red berries, tartness, sourness and leather in the aroma. The flavour is very tart and sour... redcurrant and mild vinegar. Tasty. Mouth-watering.
