UPDATED: JUN 23, 2013 375mL bottle, pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma of horse blanket, light vinegar, some light funk, and mild acidity. Flavour of medium sour notes, tons of horse blanket and funk, and some oak barrels. Finishes on some lemony, tangy notes. Low carbonation for a gueuze, which allows the complexity to properly exhibit itself. Unlike both Cantillon and 3 Fonteinen’s regular gueuzes, this one is much tangier and less funky. Excellent, unique gueuze.

Bottle. Pours a mostly clear dark gold body with a one finger fizzy white head that retained as a thin covering. The nose is pretty nice, funky as all get out with some nice lemon rind and woody notes. Very much smells like an authentic Gueuze, it’s great to have a new and available Gueuze on the market. The flavor is very dry and nicely tart with the perfect amount of tartness and zero acetic acid. Very drinkable and refreshing. Bone dry on the finish with perfect fizzy carbonation. A very good Gueuze, going to have to stock up with more of these.

UPDATED: APR 11, 2012 Bottle from Knightly. Best by 2/15/2021. Yup, I’m inside that window. Amber-gold, thin lasting off-white head on top. This has that musty basement smell that’s a good thing in these lambics. Some bandaid, lemon, and citric acid too. Sharp sour fruit flavor of grapefruit, lemon, and perhaps lime, but the sourness isn’t over the top or anything. Actually, it’s quite drinkable and refreshing. Plenty of straw and basemunt funk. Very dry, long-lasting finish. This is excellent stuff. The more I drink it the more I am liking it.

350ml bottle - $9.49 at Hop City in Atlanta, Georgia. Best before: 15/02/2021.

Appearance: Pours out a lightly hazed, dark golden body with a medium-sized, white head.

Smell: Soured citrus juice, a slight rustic quality, stray oak shavings, rubbed leather, and a fair amount of drool-inducing lactic acid entering the nostrils.

Taste: A refreshing wash of Matt Simpson’s Gas Line Lemonade with a fruity underpinning, an additional distant hint of lime rind, traces of antique pressed flowers, a dusty, leathery funkiness, and oaken planks. Moderately acidic but not enough to knock your teeth out, just enough, really. Dry, soft finish.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Lightly carbonated.

Overall: Politely discreet, refreshing, and just a good gueze overall.

Bottle corked. Poured clear golden color with an large frothy white head that was lasting with good lacing. Moderate sour yeasty wood aroma. Medium body with a dry texture with lively carbonation. Medium sour citrus flavor with a medium sour finish of moderated duration. This is a standout for style beer.

75cl bottle. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a big white head. Medium kasting foam. Aroma is sour and funk with strong citrus notes. Hay, barnyard and dust as well. In the taste you get horse blanket, hay, lemon zest and juice, taleggio cheese and dust. Quite funky and sour with a nice sweetish touch. Medium to thin body with lively carbonation. Extremely balanced and tasty. Quite complex bouquet as well. Top notch for sure.
