Bottle, 2013 batch. Hazy amber with slight reddish tones, off-white head. Nose is barnyard, woody, slight lemon. Flavour is more like a gueuze than other fruit lambics I’ve had, barnyard, woody lemon... the plum kicks in at the finish with a chalky sweetness that blends really well with the base beer’s dryness. If it weren’t labelled plum I wouldn’t know which fruit was in here, it’s not overly apparent... but it makes the finish heavenly. Deserves its reputation.

Blodgrape/bärnsten. Grumlig med partiklar. Torkade plommon eller möjligen katrinplommonsufflé. Rund fin söt och syrlig. Hallon? Komplex och påminner om en mogen geuze. (Svagt drag av nyfångad gädda har jag även skrivit. Verkar lurt.)

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Quetsch has a light golden amber body with a hazy appearance. The head is off white and puffs up while and pouring into my glass although it later settles down a bit. The nose is very musty and barnyard-esque with notes of hay and sawdust. A mild fruit aroma on the nose accompanies a mild tart and sour funk. Taking the first sip I note a mild floral flavor with a tart plum and citrus taste. The flavour profile has considerable less must and dust notes that the aroma with a sweeter flavour than most lambic beers. So far I note that Quetsche is incredibly well balanced and although not the sourest or funkiest of lambics a great brew. The plums are not exactly the star of the show here but give enough sweet fruit notes to not blow the balance out of proportion. The only drawback to this beer is that I can’t get any more.

Pours with little head, and has a cloudy dark golden colour with a tinge of red/pink hue. Has a sour smell and taste, with some carbonation, and a tart aftertaste.

Oude Quetsche is pretty amazing. Although not exactly a palate bender, it is intensely sour with restrained fruit and a delicate sweetness that strikes a note on the finish. There is some complexity but I would expect more to emerge if age mellows intensity. The finish and lingering sourness are extremely long.

Bottle shared at Craft Beer Co with Paul Unwin. Colour is hazy reddish brown, almost no head. Nose is sour, tart umeboshi (Japanese pickled plums), apricot, lemon and orange citrous peel, Brett yeast, apple sours, light farmyard. Taste is tart sour, tangy plum skins, farmyard, raisin sweetness. The sourness is clean and crisp with a lot of fruit tanginess.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
hazy golden amber color, dense puffy cream, large and lasting. Incredibly musty nose, lots of sawdust, fruit skin gives it a floral tone. Plum much more noticeable in flavor, cuts the tart citrus notes all over, less must than nose and sweeter than most lambic but still very balanced (don’t think Lindemans). Bit more bubbles would elevate experience. Incredibly balanced if sweet, perhaps the best intro- lambic, certainly the most palatable.
