The Quetsche Tilquin à l’ancienne (6.4% alc / vol) is a spontaneous fermentation beer obtained from the fermentation of destoned fresh purple plums (variety Prune de Namur or Quetsche véritable d’Alsace, close to the Damson) in a blend of 1 and 2 years old lambics for a period of 4 months. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, it is re-fermented in the bottle for a minimum period of 3 months. The lambics used were fermented and matured in our own oak barrels at the blendery. They are made from worts brewed by Boon, Lindemans, Girardin and Cantillon. The taste is slightly tart but also fruity and round which makes this Quetsche à l’ancienne may be more accessible for non-experts or less sophisticated palates. It also has a slight dryness from the skin of the plums. The nose perceives a plum brandy perfume.

First batch (2012) with a BB date of 23/02/2022 is made with ’Prune de Namur’ and limited to 500 bottles.

Second batch (2013) limited to 5000 * 75cl and 10000 * 37,5cl.

This beauty has eclipsed even Supplication as my favorite sour beer of all time. Just an amazing soft and succulent complex fruitiness (thanks to judicious use of plums) that complements a powerful tartness with plenty of the requisite horse blanket and barnyard funk. A marvelous paradox of raw power and sophistication.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2013 Bottle cheers to Ranga Jackson. Pours perfectly. Bright, slightly hazy orange with a thick white head leaving great lacing and retention for a sour. Nose is sweet, sour and juicy. Very tropical and slightly herbacious. Very grassy too. Taste shows grassy notes, some heavy apricot and juicy tropical fruits. Combines well and is very balanced. Can see why this is rated so highly. Superb drinkability without being too sour or funky. Great session sour. Love it

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2014 This is it.

Pours an awesome red with a small head.

Smells like fresh picked plums with an intense sour funkiness.

Taste is a brutal beat down of funk, bacteria, vagina, sour. Good carbonation. Hits every spot offered. Finishes dry, tart, lingering acid.

Dernière bouteille au Craft Beer Co. de Clerkenwell. Très semblable à la régulière avec en bonus une touche de noyau de prune ou d’abricot complètement délesté de sa chair.

UPDATED: APR 27, 2013 Had this one two times allready. First time was a small sample from Erwin’s glass at the brewery. Second time we opened a bottle at ’t Schooltje with Carlo and Urbain Nose is rather mediocre, slightly citrus, some exotic fruits. Taste is nice sourness, prunes are not very prominent. In fact it’s more a really good geuze, with a little bit more fruitiness to it. Good job. Looking forward to upcoming batches of this. Update: I really don’t get why the first and second batch are under the same rating. Those are two totally different beers. First one was a real complex geuze with a nice hint of the plums. Now it’s just liquid plum pie... I don’t get it...
