COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rip-roaring, rollicking India Pale Ale that’s brewed with a hefty portion of flaked rye and Carafa II to make it black as Ravens. Liberal hopping with Super Galena and whole cone Centennials and Sonnet makes this ale a kind of strong stout for hop heads. Got to charge an extra buck though, we put a lot in it!

On draft at the brewpub. Pours black with a tan head. Grassy hop aroma. Floral spicy hops with coffee and toasted malt notes. Bitter finish. Nice.

On tap at the brewpub. Very dark brown color with a small light tan head. Roasty with piney hops on the aroma.  Flavor is decently complex with sharp roast, bitter espresso, and a piney hop blast. Very dry on the mouthfeel and rather resinous with average carbonation. Pretty solid example of the style if not a standout.

Draft. Small beige head, nice lacing, brown edge to black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, bittersweet chocolate, grapefruit, rye, some earthy. Taste is moderately sweet, grapefruit, some bittersweet chocolate, light rye, earthy. Medium-full body, some stickiness, resin.

Draft at the brewpub. Their description is pretty apt. This definitely drinks just like a hoppy stout. It’s almost chalky, with a hint of baking chocolate, finishing with a sharp snap of hops. Decent -- hides the 9.6% well. (#4534, 3/24/2012)
