On tap at the brewpub. Clear amber color with a small whitish head. Tea, bread, and caramel on the aroma with a weird briny note. The flavor is oddly briny/fishy and earthy with a bready base. Not really feeling this one. Medium body with average carbonation. Looks like they brought this one a little close to the ocean.

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Braudog (5062) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - MAR 24, 2012
Draft at the brewpub. Served way too cold! Dark opaque and copper with a metallic tilt. The body is a bit thin, IMHO. Unremarkable. The more I drink, the more this tastes like unsweetened tea. (#4535, 3/24/2012)

1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 tronraner (2459) - Walland, Tennessee, USA - DEC 19, 2010
500 mL bottle. Pours a hazy reddish brown with good-looking beige head. The aroma is very astringent with some notes of autolyzed yeast, wood, and English hops. The flavor is also extremely astringent. The hop bitterness is nice and assertive, but when combined with the weird soap and autolysis notes, it becomes harsh and unpleasant. The finish seems very tannic and won’t go away. Sorry, but this one is a fail.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 zizzybalubba (1161) - Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA - DEC 12, 2010
On tap at Outer Banks Brewing Station. Pours dark orange and is likened to an IPA rather than the darker color I would associate with an ESB. The comparisons to an IPA extend beyond appearance. Huge, clean floral and grassy hops are undenyable in the aroma. Although 6 hop varities are used according to the menu, the nugget hops really stick out in my opinion. The flavor is also on the hoppy side rather than an ESB. There is certainly some malt balance but the hops are the star. This is more like an imperial amber along the lines of Troegs Nugget Nectar than an ESB so I think even the brewer would agree it is misclassified. That aside, this is really tasty.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 bubbleflubber (1465) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - OCT 3, 2010
Pours a deep murky amber with a pillowy sandstone head that leaves frothy lace. The nose is of sourgrains and doughy notes. Flavors of toast, pale malts, biscuit flour, and lengthy, fresh, peppering hop bitters to finish. The body is medium-light with a bold mouthfeel. It’s got substance, although lacking a tad on complexity. Makes for a great sessionista!
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 madvike (2128) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 24, 2010
Bottle shared by MrPickles - Pours rosy copper with a small, off-white head. Smells of lightly spiced malt with a bit of citrus. Tastes of light, fruity malt with some nice light roast grains. Light hops on the finish with some nutmeg. A little watery overall, but not really thin. Started a tasting with this beer, so the light nature was appreciated, but it wasn’t anything special.
