Made from a medley of malts and plenty of candi sugar, this exquisitely spiced "Trappesque" ale satisfies Santa with toe toasting tipple as he rests beside a crackling fire after his long and frosty ride.

16.9 bottle shared. Pots a medium to dark brown color still translucent enough though light brown head that dissipates just leaving lacing on the glass. The aroma is awesome, nice spice blend, licorice and dark roasted malts. Get lots of sweet candy as well. The flavor is Awesome, candy, licorice, molasses, burnt sugars, roasted malts. Just a touch of warmth on the end in alcohol. This the first of their beers I have tried and if this is any indication great job.

Half liter bottle from Appalachian Vintner. Pours a hazy dark amber color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of candi sugar and tart fruits. The taste is candi sugar, dark malts, raisin, tart fruits, candied fruits and a bit of chocolate. Medium bodied, a bit of prickly booze, low carbonation. A little disjointed but overall a nice beer.

500ml bottle, shared by jmborggren. Mostly hazy, dark red. Slightly brown color. Minimal off-white head. Just a couple dots of lace. Very nice spice, dried orange aroma. Lightly spicy. Some black licorice. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter, lightly soft carbonation. Lightly dry finish. More sweet taste. Raisins, dates. Tasty, complex winter spice ale. Carries the big alcohol well.

500 ml bottle shared by jmborggren. Pours a hazy dark amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have spice, caramel, wood, yeast and herbal notes. No sign of 10%. Worth a try.

Bottle to taster (shared by jmborggren). Looks good for the style; a slightly cloudy amberish brown with light beige lacing. Smells sweet, malty, and a bit vinous. Tastes like it smells with a nice, dry, and lightly earthy mouthfeel. Good beer.

0.5 L bottle. Very dark, opaque brown, with a thin, tan head. Light coffee, butter toffee, maple syrup, black pepper, and black bread. Very sweet up front, with a little spiciness and booze warming in the finish. Medium to heavy, very thick, syrupy, and a little too acidic. Overall, this is a very strong, flavorful, and surprisingly complex beer. Nicely done.

Bottle from Bruisin Ales. Pours coke brown with an inch of khaki foam. Big sugar and raisin on the nose. Lots of sweetness and spice on the tongue. The person who said that if coke was a beer it would be this isn’t far off. There’s a bit of an alcohol burn in the finish.

Smoky aroma has tones of apple, molasses and burnt licorice plus just a hint of coffee. It pours a barely translucent dark mahogany, like cola with a bit of red in it, with a rather thick and persistent light tan head that leaves some good lacing. Flavor is - Holy Toledo, I think Dasher just kicked me in the tongue! This brew commits assault and battery on the tastebuds with a fairly fierce alcohol bite, as well as firm caramel, molasses, licorice and roast malt notes that reverberate like a fortissimo chord played by the entire orchestra. Hints of cloves, apple and cinnamon round out the scrumptious flavor. Smooth texture has above-average body and a fair amount of lively fizz. Apparently this is available only in North Carolina, and only during the winter holidays. This beer is worth a trip to the Tar Heel State! I saw it at both Tasty Beverage in Raleigh and Brusin’ Ales in Asheville.
