Had on tap in a sampler at the brewery. Pours near black with thick head. Aromas of roasted barley, malt, and coffee with a hint of hops. Taste follows the nose with the same. Not a very heavy beer for the style. A well balanced brew.

Draft at restaurant. Nice malty aroma, not burnt. Smooth with nice mouthfeel, not too thin. Good taste and drinkable. One of the better options at restaurant.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewpub. Pours very dark brown in color, with a nice one-finger light tan head sitting on top. The aroma is great - deep roast and dark chocolate, with slight coffee and spice. The flavor is excellent. The main flavor notes you expect are really assertive. Loads of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and coffee, with slight molasses and anise. There’s also a really interesting black pepper note to it. Not sure how they pulled that off, but it really works. Medium-bodied with some peppery spiciness on the mouthfeel. Carbonation level is about average. A really impressive beer overall. Unique and very tasty. This was my favorite beer during my recent trip to OBBS, and I had 2 pints of it after sampling all the beers there.

On tap at the pub. Opaque beer with a thin brown head. Thick molasses and almost campfire smokiness in the nose. This is a thick, sugary beer. Molasses, sweetened coffee, pepper, with a long bitter grass finish. Nice stout.

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2009 7-31-09 at the brew pub....its black...coffee aroma and flavor...licorice should not have been in the name of this( on their beer list its Stormy Roses Licorice Stout)...and I’m actually glad I put aside my dislike for licorice to taste this....its flavor is nice strong bitter coffee along with molasses...its smooth and goes down easy...a stickiness left on the lips.....according to the info on this beer......apparently adding licorice root is an old english brewing trick used to mellow the intense coffee-dark chocolate flavors of roasted barley in a dry Irish style stout

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft @ OBBS Pours a good dark brown with creamy tan head Lacing is decent. Has a roasty aroma of coffee. Has a good carbonation. The mouthfeel is decent. Flavors are good. A touch on the lighter side for a stout but still good. Has a medium body. The texture is syrupy. Has a pretty good finish with a good aftertaste.
