COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Vitus Reductus Old Stock Ale (Malt beverage brewed w/ grapes & aged in wine barrels). Old Stock Ales are long aged in oak casks where they pick up character from the oak and microorganisms residing in the wood. Ours is a combination of first runnings (concentrated sweet wort)and boiled down reduction of N.C’s native grape Muscadine. It is then fermented and aged in wine barrels for a year. Vitis Reductus refers to a technique we borrow from Spanish sherry-making, wherein grape juice is boiled down to one-third its original volume and then some fresh grape juice is added back to the blend. V.R. Old Stock Ale is rich, robust, and mellow while decidedly different. Batch No.1 Brewed 09/2010 Barreled 09/2010 Bottled 01/2012

Bottle. Murky dark maroon color, scant tan edge head. Aroma of dusty and moldy red grapes. Taste is softly sour port wine, dates. Very nice.

375 ml stub bottle from Bruisin Ales. Pours a murky brown Little head that fades. Sour. But not too acidic. Strong grape in there as well. If this ages a bit, it might take on sherry traits. Nice right now.

Bottle from bruisin ales in Asheville, NC. Nose is medicinal and sour. Flavor is just not good, not well balanced. Example of how barrel aged sour can go wrong. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle to snifter. Looks alright; a murky amber with some lacing. Smells solid; sweet and sour. Tastes good; a nice, balanced brew with a good mouthfeel. Good stuff!
