1.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20
My meagre hopes for this beer had increased when I found it was from Hamburg, in spite of being falsely marketed as originating from Benin. I guess the questionable taste of the Tokolosh/Pickaninny effigy on the label should have been a warning/hint of the shit I was about to drink. There’s little else to say about a beer that smells and tastes like crap. The rather uncanny floral whiff of overripe peaches and lavender continues throughout the flavour. Perhaps my worst foreign stout ever.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Apparently not from Benin after all... Black colour. Roasted malt aroma. Has a strange, slightly sour, slightly floral taste.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours dark brown with tanned head. Aroma of toffee and nuts. Taste of caramel malt, some light roasted caramel malt and light nutty taste. I have never sniffed or tasted anything like this before. For me its new and unique. Im confused and not sure how to grade this. A good grade for the uniqueness and then i dont know if i like it. It surprised me!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
26th March 2013
Bottle in my Vienna Hotel. Clear amber beeer, big pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and crisp and airy. Dry malt. Touch of hop bitterness. Floral notes. Vague sweet sherbet lingering about. Quite a dry finish. Not too bad at all.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle. Pours clear very dark brown with airy tan head. Distinct aroma of malt with an uncanny odour of metal and booze. Sweet-sourish flavour of malt and burnt flowers, giving some nasty roasted belches. I thought I was tasting African magic, but it was quite disappointing. What’s worse, my hopes of getting hold of a genuine Beninese brew were dashed when I found out it was brewed in Belgium.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared with McTapps. A very nice surprise and the winner of an evening. Pours in dark and hits you with a full body. Some fruits, some chocolate and surprsingly easy to drink. Very fine one.
