3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle @ The Clerkenwell Share. Thanks to whoever brought this along! Gold pour with a small white head. Nose is pretty sweet and fruity. Peach orchard. Apricot and nectarine fruit salad. Tangy fruit skin. Taste is has some wind barrel character. Lightly tart. A hint of booze. Some cheese/strawberry that I usually associate with sorachi ace. Plum and lemon zest. Very soft carbonation makes the beer feel a bit leaden on the palate. Interesting, but all over the place.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared at Lightening Day. Thanks! Pours a nice decent hazed hue, golden orange, a bit dulled with some gentle darker glow. Frothy whitish head atop stays as a mellow frothy layer, decent ring laces ok. Aromas are gentle sweetness, dough and pear, some subtle tartness. Mellow touches of yeast, vanilla, oak. Some touches of gentle brett, dust, and mellow sweetness. Touches of oak, gentle tangerine, Chardonnay. Initial lighter end of the fold, some tangerine, white grape and melon. Nice mellow fruit presence meets a touch of dryness, oak, and mellow white wine. Subtle brett is gentle, touches of dust and cobwebs. Mellow oak, some more fruit presence, just a touch tart. A bit fuzzy, some gentle dryness, brett, and tannic oak as we move on. Some gentle sweetness starts to die out. Some nice dryness, mellow fruit, brett, and barrel. Solid.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
In short: A rustic, tart, acidic and oaky Saison-like ale. Good beer.
How: Tap at Hill Farmstead Farmhouse Saison Festival 2012.
The look: Cloudy blond body topped by a small white head.
In long: Nose is musty, a bit of funk and with plenty of oak barrels but not a bourbon character (I was told the barrels were bourbon, might be wrong). Taste is I very rustic, sun dried straw and hay, dusty attic, musk, salty/minerals sensation, fresh virgin oak, apples, lemons, bananas, ripe citrus fruits, a bit of funk. Razor sharp finish that is rather tart and dry with a fair amount of acidity. Not sure what happened to the “Pale Ale” part of the beer here, this to me was a truly rustic Saison even though its present ratebeer style is simply Belgian Ale. Enjoyed at the Hill Farmstead Farmhouse Saison Festival where I had way too much to drink, and if at a beer festival you have never been voted "Most likely not to live to the next year edition of the festival" than clearly we don’t have the same lifestyle.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle share at CBC Clerkenwell, many thanks to Leighton! Batch #9, 6.5%. Hazy orange / dark yellow, light sparkling, small ring of white head. Aroma is tangy bretty lemon, flowers, medicinal, touch of TCP. Body is medium, soft carbonation, smooth. Taste is buttery, lemon, vanilla, dental rinse with a soft bitterness. I quite liked this - not your everyday beer.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: SEP 23, 2015 Bottled May 2015, drunk 9/14/15.
Very light gold with some slightly deeper marigold tints and a large white head that slowly recedes to cover. Good clarity.
Really fun nose is all sorts of funky, musty, sort of generally mousey bacteria/brett goodness. Not terribly sulfury, but more the wet blanket/wet sheep/damp cellar funk. Some light fruitiness breaks through, a touch of pineapple-meets-cherry as well as very minimal wood character contributing a touch of vanilla. A real delight to just continually sniff the stuff, especially as it continues to warm up. Wonderfully subtle and elegant, as always, from Oxbow.
Similar flavors, matching the aroma, show a bit more leathery brett-like funk, dry pineapple, appleskin, cheese and a bare afterthought of pale malts. Sadly, it’s extremely dry and normally, Oxbow’s beers have a tightly carbonated, near creamy texture that would have helped balance the dryness, but not so here. Rather watery, very loose carbonation and poor malt structure really disappoint. Some light sourness and wood tannin, not at terribly high levels, are nonetheless problematic on account of the very low malt/extremely light body. Perhaps my other bottle will show better carbonation!
