750 ml bottle shared by Phatdog1. Blended 11-12-13. Color shows a hazy copper color with no head. Aroma is oak barrel, burnt caramel, mild white wine and Brett funk.

Flavor is rather funkadelic. Sour oak, tannins bitterness throughout the sip. The main body also presents a smokiness from what must be smoked malts. displays a mild pucker in the back of the taste buds that lingers. The smoke and funk is real interesting. I can appreciate what the brewer did with this brew but it really isn’t my thing.

11.12.13 Blend. Glowing Orange pour with a filmy head. Aroma is slightly soured citrus, barrel, nice and ripe. Bright acidity at first and has a nice round finish. A tasty blend of barrel ripened ale. A little bit of bandaid, but some lovely tones of wood, fruitcake, vanilla, and some crushed leaf/earthiness. I like their fresh stuff the best, but this is a pretty nice bottle.

Bourbon, vanille, fûmée, cuir et une tempête de sauvagerie pour compenser le tout. Plus qu’intéressant assemblage.

Amber pour, off white head. Weird. Smoke, band aid, vegetal notes, scorched grains. Not so great.

11/12/13 750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours hazy copper with an off-white head. Aroma of light tartness, smoky malts, some caramel and nuttiness from the malts, light fruit and spice notes, and some light oak. Flavor the same with a cool blend, the smokiness and tartness working well. Average texture. A really interesting and good beer.

750ml bottle (11/12/13 blend) opens with a small gush and pours clear brown red with a finger of head. Nose is smoky campfire, fruity malt, subtle bread, some tart fruit. Taste is similar with balanced smoke, tart earthy fruit, some toasted bread. Finish is tart smoky malty fruit. The smoke level is dialed in nicely, not over the top at all. Interesting beer.

In short: A messy chaotic amber ale with a dirty barnyard character. Not sure what to make of this one.
How: Bottle shared by my man Kyle at post HF FoFA 2013 party.
The look: Cloudy amber body topped by a small off-white head.
In long: Nose is dusty attic, dried oranges, cheese, barnyard, animals. I’m a lover of beer with a farmhouse character, but this one had a the wrong type of barnyard, the barnyard with packed with animals and excrement. In mouth the beer has a medium body and a fizzy carbonation. Taste is dusty rug, horse blanket, white cheese, a strange tartness, a touch of smoke, more... An overall sensation that something went wrong and this wasn’t the intended result. It had plenty of individual flavors but when put together it was just a chaotic mess. If you are at a beer event and someone wants to offer you a glass of Oxbow Blended Oxtoberfest, please dial 911 but only after you have put yourself out of harm’s way.

Bottle sample. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have a strange smokiness, herbal notes, funk, barnyard, tart fruits and toasted vanilla. Interesting, but strange for an octoberfest.

Bottle provided by Todd, thanks a bunch! Pours a dark orange brown in color with a half fingers worth of white head. Nose is strangely smokey and somewhat plastic-y, with some light reisling in the background. Flavor is better, but still has a smoked meat quality. Not sure where exactly it’s coming from. Light mouthfeel, good carbonation, and a moderate finish. Definitely an oddity, but happy to try it.

8oz pour at Meridian Pint. Clear dark orange with one ring of white head. Nose has tons of Riesling, plenty of brett too, grapefruit rind, light funk, malt, dandelion, band aid. Flavor is tart and sweet, white grape, grapefruit juice, a little raisin, orange pith, chrysanthymum. Full bright, tart finish. Very well blended.
