Bottle. Rich and mildly funky fruit nose. Bright reddish brown color. Gentle sourish stone fruit, thin and a bit vegetal. Thin body and lightly astringent. Interesting, mild stuff. Smoke doesn’t really emerge.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
My Bottom Line:
Grapefruit seep into wooden smoke and straw, offering acidity among the BBQ notes.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam garnishes the hazy amber.
-Mouthfeel is rather dry and prickly.
-The smokiness is soft throughout.
-This is as well executed as all Oxbox brews I’ve had.
-Smoke and grapefruit is not the intuitive flavor combo out there, so some mental ajustment is necessary to truly enjoy this one.

Draft. Hazy straw pour with off-white head. Nose was caramel malt, noble hops. Tasted caramel malty, with notes of toffee, noble hops, and an earthy finish.

Beer Street, Brooklyn tap: pours amber with a white head. Aroma is bacon, malts, caramel. Taste is not at smoky but hets smoky at the finish. Taste is complex and pretty weird. Kind of candy like flavor in some sense. Nice and yeasty. Interesting.

Pours a dark orange with brown hues. The aroma is bacon and smoked malt. The flavor is somewhat sweet, but for the most part dry. Not an Oktoberfest, but good

Dark Orange and cloudy. Draft at their brewpub. Pumpkin and spices tons flavor and the smoke brings it along. Nicely done

On tap at Prohibition Pig, Waterbury, VT.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a moderately semi-dark hazy ruddy brown color with no head nor lacing (bar pour, so I’m not worried).
The smell started off with big malty, but not overly sweet, smokiness. A light contour of meatiness runs in to balance nicely.
The taste copies the aroma nicely adding a nice little kick of earthy to musty flavor coincides nice enough to balance nicely. Earthy malt in the aftertaste runs into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body with a light sessionable malty alcohol quality about it on my tongue.
Overall, nice Bier de Garde, I’d have again.

Tap at rattle couldn’t resist a Maine flight. Reddish copper pour. Nose is smoke and spice. Tate of soaked bread, some currants, rum spice, caramel and more smoke than I would have thought. Pleasant interesting brew.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hugely underrated beer. Amber color with eggshell head. Aroma is toasty nutty malts, a solid peppery yeasty backbone with mild sweetness that drys out with a touch of smoke.
