COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This wheat based farmhouse-style Christmas Ale is smooth and cloudy. Deeply kilned Belgian malts and our rustic farmhouse yeast come together to provide a bone-dry, warming richness with notes of dark fruit, wet stone, leather, and tobacco. In Season when ‘tis the Season.

32oz growler pours dark semi-opaque toasted red with small thin head. Nose is musty earthy fruit, plum, touch of booze, bready yeast. Taste is fruity bready yeast and spices, underlying subtle cracker and cereal grain, raisin and plum notes on the finish. The base beer is not quite as good as the bourbon barrel aged version but still tasty and a hearty sipper for a cold night.

tap at ebenezer’s. almost murky dark brown pour with a minimal light beige head, little retention. spices upfront - anise and coriander, chocolate, coffee and tobacco, some rustic toasted and roasted graininess, some burnt caramel, earthy and dusty. decent dark fruitiness. moderate carbonation, light body, short grassy-spicy and relatively dry finish. decent christmas belgian ale - not much saison characteristics. still, more than decent..

In short: A very toasted and moderately spicy Belgian dark belgian ale. Clean and dry. Good beer.
How: Tap at Three Penny taproom, Montpelier VT.
The look: Clear burgundy body topped by a small beige head.
In long: Nose is rather spicy (typical array of Christmas beer spices) along with a strong toastiness (even smoke allusions) and some tree bark notes. Taste is toasted cereals (bread crumbs), light presence of dark fruits, mild maple syrup-like sweetness, discreet wooden hops. Very ‘yeast-less’ for a Belgian ale. I didn’t find much Saison-related characteristics about this spicy dark ale classified as a Saison except for its high attenuation. Basically this beer tastes like a traditional spicy christmas dark belgian ale except it is more toasted, less yeasty and with a drier finish. An enjoyable beer for what it is. This beer has the word ‘Saison’ in its name and it is classified as a Saison on ratebeer, but don’t believe everything you read, especially if you read a lot of sci-fi novels.
