Ozujsko Pivo, a blond beer, is Croatia’s leading brand, dating from 1893. The selection of hops and barley gives Ozujsko (5.2% ABV) a refreshing taste and fine bitter aroma. It should be served at 3°C with compact foam.

Note: Dropped from 11.5° and 5.2% to 11° and 5.0% in late 2009/early 2010.

Pours pale yellow with some white fizzy head. Neutral in aroma, a little creamy in mouthfeel.Grainy taste. Its drinkable actually, though somewhat astringent in the finish. I could drink this if I had no other beers about. Passable and serviceable for its style, as a pseudo-pilsner.

500 ml bottle from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass.

App.: Clear golden with a rim of white foam. Aroma: Light apples and other fruitiness, a bit of skunky, grassy hops, cereal and grain, sort of a honey sweetness. Palate: Medium body and carbonation. Flav.: More grainy than the nose, still a bit of grassy hops, some fruitiness; dry but feels like it wants to be sweet somehow, nasty alcohol (fusel oils???) and stale apple juice on the finish.

Balanced, certainly not bad, but definitely lacklustre.

Pale golden pour with a weak head. Scent of corn and grains. Hate to generalize, but this has that generic Euro Pils scent. Taste at least has some distinction. Good hops taste, easy to drink. Seems watered down and there is a waxy aftertaste. Definatley not horrible, better then many other "euro pils"

Golden yellow with a bit of a fizzy white head. Sweet aroma and grain and grass. Flavour is sweet and lightly grassy. Easy drinking and uncomplicated.

500 mL can. Active and yellow gold with a small white head that gradually recedes to a film. Medium aroma is quite sweet, with some corn and earthy hops. Flavour is mild, and light on the hops. I really can’t even pick out the pilsner malt. Thin body is not dry enough. Having said all of this, it’s at least drinkable, which is more than I can say for most of the other beers I’ve tried from this part of the world.

Can - 500ml. Boring golden body with average carbonation and a diminishing white bubbly head. Fair malty/hoppy aroma with bready hints. Taste is fresh and well balanced, but it lacks complexity. Ends with a short bitter finish. Fair Euro-Lager.

Bottled. Vegetal nutty fizz on snout, joined by the merest rub of musty hop, lemon, grass. Whispers of citrus, conifer, cardboard. Solid bitterness and cornflake softness. Maybe I’m just pissed, but this seems like a half-decent Czech-style pivo with no glaring off-notes. Tap, Caffe Bar Smokvica, Trogir. Polite and biscuity, with a pleasingly woody snout almost like a hefe. There’s wheat or maize here, but a clean and refreshing lager.

Pours a thin yellow with a foamy head that quickly disappears. The aroma is lightly grassy and bready. The flavour is light and bready with an uncomfortable herbal hoppy dry bitter finish. That taste at the finish may be for some, but not for me.
