Since 2001, contract-brewed for Pabst Brewing (San Antonio), as Pabst no longer owns a brewery of its own.

Established in Milwaukee in 1844, this is the original Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. Nature’s choicest products provide its prized flavor. Only the finest of hops and grains are used. Selected as America’s Best in 1893.

Smooth, run-of-the-mill American lager. I guess that’s what Pabst deserves.

Pours a pale golden with a medium white head that disappears in a blink of an eye and leave close to no lacing. Nose is of corn and water, pretty weak. Taste is of corn and a little hay, nothing else. Body is light and mouthfeel is watery. In fact, I’d argue that tap water is a little tastier. Overall an easy to drink brew, brainless.

Straw yellow with foamy head. Smells of corn and bread. Watery taste with not much going on. Cheap beer for drinking after yard work or binge drinking with buddies while watching the game or race. Probably one of the first beers I ever had, our neighbor growing up drank enough of this stuff to float a battleship and I may have snuck one or two back in the day.

I drank this in college when it was cheap and I did not know any better. Thankfully I received a beer education while living in Europe and never have to drink this one again.

Most of the people reviewing this beer are hipsters themselves. It’s a simple American macro lager, they’re not trying to impress you with an abundance of hops or fancy label. This is the kind of beer you drink after mowing the lawn or just want to get a cheap drunk. Quit reviewing as though it should be on par with craft beers.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2014 Good for the price. Good for mass quantity drinking. Not special by any means. No depth.

The beer is light golden and transparent with a half inch of pure white head. Aromas of grain, bread, corn, adjuncts. Not as sweet and off putting as the BMC highly marketed crap that is seemingly everywhere. Grainy with some cereal-like character. Clean and refreshing. Basically, exactly what you would expect from a decent adjunct lager. Ok.

Can back in Montreal, I can’t believe I didn’t rate this before. Ok what to say: It is a pretty typical macro yellow gold lager, sweet, sugary and mostly inoffensive. Beloved for being cheap and not much different from pricier macros. Average macro lager meaning below-average for a good beer.

This beer exemplifies the reason why I do not like beer review sites. Beer snobs like to trash popular commercial beers. As a 62 year old beer lover who has had over 1000 different beers, To this day I still enjoy a PBR. Why reviewers at this site like to trash this beer is compete mystery. It does have aroma, it does have flavor and it is smooth and refreshing. Is it a craft beer? No. Is it a high calorie Belgian? No Is it a watery light beer? No. It is a great beer that goes well with all food and is refreshing after hard work.

12 oz bottle, no aroma that I can discern, pale straw color, bland and dull. I was handed this beer and felt obligated to drink it for the first time in perhaps 20 years. Hopefully I’m never handed another one.
