Dark black pour with small beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and bourbon. Taste of roasted malts, unsweetened chocolate, coffee, leather and bourbon. Some beers are better barrell aged but I found this to be the opposite. Bourbon flavour is slightly to intense over riding the true flavour and character of this beer. Too bad cause I know there is a very good beer hidden in there.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2013 Pours an opaque black with a small brown head. This beer is ridiculously balanced for a 10 point brew. Aroma of bourbon, more bourbon, chocolate, roasted malts, wood, sweet dried fruits and some slight alcohol warmth. Taste is bourbon, wood, chocolate, roasted malts, sweet dried fruit and a nice smooth alcohol warmth on the finish. Still can?t believe how smooth this is, great job paddock wood!

Black with a dark brown head that fades quickly. Lots of milk chocolate / hot chocolate powder, some bourbon yet mellow, bit of vanilla, slightly roasted malts but quite sweet. Sweet, quite smooth, moderate to thin body, lots of chocolate, low carbonation, some vanilla, slight bitterness and alcohol towards the end, somewhat dry. Very interesting and tasty

Tap at Underground. Black in colour, low sitting light brown cap. Some light spotty lace.Nose is malty, big chocolate. Taste has rich chocolate notes, some sweetness, coffee bean roastiness, whisky and vanilla. Finishes with cocoa and roast with slight dark fruits, lingering whiskey and some bitterness. Light wood notes. Body is medium to full, light mouthfeel. Was a big fan of the cherry version of this, but this isn’t as good.

Any beer with sock monkeys on the label can’t be all bad. Plenty of whiskey on the nose and the tongue without overwhelming chocolate and coffee malt of the beer itself. Good stuff.

Bottle. Inky viscous pour with a finely bubbled low brown head. Sweet bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, bread, treacle, lots of bourbon but not harsh. The body has just enough malt to carry the bourbon load, and overall this remains rich and satisfying, although to be truly outstanding it coul e little more malt-heavy, a little chewier. But I loved it anyway, just to be clear.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2013 Bottle (330 ml). Traded by dresden, thanks! Black with a medium quickly disappearing beige/brown head and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, bourbon/alcohol, dark chocolate and slight dark fruits. Taste is of bourbon, alcohol, roasted malt, dark chocolate and dark fruits. Slight roasted bitter finish. Warming alcohol. Low carbonation. Good BA RIS, but it could use a little more complexity. Drinkability is low due to heavy bourbon and high amount of roasted malt.

Pours pitch black with a creamy mocha head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is heavy in dark chocolate and black liquorice, along with some light coffee, roasted barley and alcohol notes. Taste is rich and sweet with a lingering dry bitterness towards the finish. Full body, softer carbonation, and smooth on the palate. A really great imperial stout.

First off, awesome label and name. Pours a very dark black with a killer deep tan head that is evenly 1/2 inch thick and very dense. Aroma has a very strong whiskey nose, lots of coffee and roasted notes, mild chocolate and more whiskey at the end providing a some alcohol fumes. Flavor is fantasticly rich. There are a lot of strong whiskey (almost scotch-like at times from the rich malt) early with a strong chocolate and light coffee bitterness to cut the whiskey note. Brew has a slight oily feeling to it but a lot of alcohol bite from the whiskey. Overall a very, very tasty brew. One of the better barrel aged imps I have had the pleasure of tasting. I would love to have a few cases of this lying around for consumption.

Local swap! Black pour with a small tan head. Huge bourbon/vanilla/chocolate nose. Boozy chocolates, vanilla, woody caramel, and a bit of butterscotch. Just hints at a salty/soy sauce/umami component, but not over powering. Just a bit thin, not as chewy as the bigger imperial stouts I have had. Solid effort.
