COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Oatmeal Stout is a traditional English style stout, created before Arthur Guinness established the Dry Irish Stout style. Oatmeal Stout gets its dark profile from chocolate malt which has not been roasted as long or as strongly as the barley used in Dry Stouts. The chocolate malt gives notes of coffee or chocolate, and the oatmeal softened the background even further for smooth, easy drinking ale.

Everything you look for in an oatmeal stout. Coffee and chocolate with some dark fruit. Not too sweet. And smoooooooooth.

On tap at Charcut, Calgary. Decent deep brown black colour, something of a head. Wasn’t labelled as oatmeal stout and I’d never have guessed, more of a pleasant but unremarkable dry stout with roasty malt and a dry finish. Quite quaffable, but mouthfeel and smoothness of oatmeal stout not there.

Draft at Calgary brewfest. Dark maroon color, tan head. Nice aroma of rich cocoa. Taste is equally rich coffee grounds. Very nice.

Tap @ Calgary Beer Fest. Pours clear black with a medium, frothy light tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is chocolate, coffee and roast malt, leathery, prunes, and licorice notes. Flavor is malt dominant, light hops and bitterness, oats, dark fruits and a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation.

Guess i’ve never rated this. Had it on draft last night at the owl. Great looking black beer with a nice creamy tan head. Aroma coffee, molasses and cocoa. Tastes dark chocolate and coffee. Solid oatmeal stout. I do prefer it on tap to the bottle.

Bottle - 341ml. Opaque black body with a thin off-white foamy head. Good malty/hoppy aroma with chocolate hints. Decent hoppy taste with roasty notes. Ends with a good bitter/roasty finish. Good stuff.

Pours translucent blackish brown with a beige head. Dark chocolate, molasses and coffee aroma. Medium body. The taste has the same dark chocolate, molasses and coffee aroma flavors as the aroma, but there is just boatloads of oatmeal in here too. Dry finish.

Not bad. Pours black with tan head. Strong coffee aromas. Black licorice, coffee and chocolate on the palate. Smooth oatmeal finish. Too much carbonation up front.

Black cola-like appearance. Aroma of roasted malts. Taste is dry, bitter and malty, though I detected some metallic-ness to this, too.

Not much head on this baby. From bottle at Biercraft on The Drive. Not much aroma either. Black in color. Not bad. A bit thin for my taste. A bit sweet on the ending. Not bad for a Saskatchewan beer, eh?
