COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Oatmeal Stout is a traditional English style stout, created before Arthur Guinness established the Dry Irish Stout style. Oatmeal Stout gets its dark profile from chocolate malt which has not been roasted as long or as strongly as the barley used in Dry Stouts. The chocolate malt gives notes of coffee or chocolate, and the oatmeal softened the background even further for smooth, easy drinking ale.

Not much on the aroma, mostly just the %. Quite smooth but the % really shows on the tounge as well. Quite thin, a bit of malt ond coffee on the tounge after. After a while it does warm up nicely, but still falls a bitshort

Sampled on tap at St. Augustine’s, pours a dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of toasted nuts, baker’s chocolate, bread and dry roast. Flavour of oatmeal, dry roast, bitter chocolate and toasted nuts. Light-bodied for a stout and quite bitter. Could use some sweeter notes to balance off the dry, bitter palate. Decent, but thin.

341ml bottle pours deep black color with a thick beige head with good retention leaving some nice lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma is dark roasted malts with hints of chocolate and coffee. Taste is a pleasing roasty malt bitterness with some chocolately malt sweetness and hints of coffee with a trace of hop bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied and nicely carbonated. This is a pretty tasty stout that is quite easy to drink.

Bottle, thanks Steve. Brown with a huge billowy tan head that settles to a nice layer in the glass, leaving lacing down its side. Some roasted oats, oatmeal, bit of chocolate that grows as it warms up, some frothed milk. Moderately high carbonation, little thin, bit bitter, becomes very dry, leaves barley and grains and some roasted malts on the palate.

Single bottle purchased on 06/24/2011 from Zyn Liqour in Calgary, AB. Colour: Midnight black with low white head. Nose: Certainly smells like I just sat down at breakfast with a bowl of raw oats and boiling water. Also smells like baked potato, very soft yeast, fresh dough. Taste: Light sweet, medium-light bitter, light sour. Softer than expected. Nice toasty highlights throughout but nothing distinct jumps out. Buttery bread. Nice creamy mouthfeel.

Appearance: Cola black, thick brown head. Aroma: Raspberry, beautiful milk chocolate, beautiful latte like aroma too, great nutty notes too. Lovely. Flavour: Smoky, there’s raspberry again with a good milk chocolate and nutty flavour, oatmeal in the finish, very enjoyable.

Bottle from Savvy1982. Thanks Kyle. Pours near solid black with a very thin, quickly disappearing tan head. Aroma of sweet oats and grain. Taste has a hint of smokiness along with sweet toffee and caramel. Dark chocolate bitter finish. Medium thin body, medium high carbonation. Just missing a certain rich texture that I like in oatmeal stouts.

Bottle thanks to savvy1982. Pours with a black body and a tan head that fades rather quickly. Aromas of chocolate, nuts, grain, a bit of coffee. Not a whole lot, seems like a rather weak aroma. Flavors, again, I’m getting surprisingly little (and it is not like my palate is shot, the previous beers were an ESB and a small lager). Some graininess and bitterness. A bit of roasted malt and associated acidity. Some coffee. Some biscuity flavors. Lively bubbles. Kind of a bland stout.

12 oz bottle courtesy of savvy 1982. Thanks. Pours an opaque black color with a small beige head that quickly dissipates to a fine ring. The aroma is weak and indistinct with just a smattering of roasted grains. The flavor is robust with dark roasted malts, coffee, licorice and walnuts. The palate is thin and crisp with soft carbonation. Finishes short and clean. Overall: I would like this much more if the palate were thicker/creamy and the finish was a bit longer. .

It pours a black color with a nice tan color head. Medium amount of carbonation present. There is a huge amount of oatmeal present and some chocolate notes as well. The flavor consists of roasted malt, some burnt coffee, oatmeal, dark chocolate. It finishes with a lingering bitterness and a little sweetness from the chocolate. A well done oatmeal stout. Another great product from these guys.
