JoeMcPhee (3671), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 Thanks to Matthew for dragging this down from Saskatchewan. Deep brown beer. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and toasted malt. Lean earthy character with a bit of dusty yeastiness. Flavour shows lots of cold coffee and cocoa. A soft herbal bitterness. The body is a bit thinnish. Lingering roastiness. It’s more stouty than porter, but it’s still okay. Sammy (3023), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 13, 2008 very smooth drinking porter, like a cross between an English porter and a doppleback. Chocolate malt, moderate and acceptable drinking bitterness. Black with generous white foaming head. Bit of roast in the nose. Medium mouthfeel. In a word, balance. piscator34 (903), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Jan 21, 2008 Bottled sample via paco. Near black in colour with hints of red. Average carbonation. Aromas of milk chocolate, vienna roast coffee, and light floral hops. Quite roasty in the mouth... almost burnt tasting. Darker chocolate notes abound, along with more coffee elements. Some mild vineous notes are there too. Slightly astringent finish. Pretty good as it stands, but a bit of caramel sweetness would have really helped this out. pintbypint (879), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Dec 2, 2007 355ml brown bottle. Pours dark brown. Head is beige in colour, creamy and tight, leaves great lacing. The aroma has mainly roasty malts, trace of coffee. Flavour is cocoa-ish malt, light roasted character, dryish throughout with a nice medium roast coffee finish. Aftertaste has some chocolate and coffee. Medium bodied, light and fine carbonation.
