Note: 5+/10

A nice dubbel. Dark brown/maroon colour with fruity aroma. Dried fruit, but not overly so. This was a quality beverage.

Had this one around a month ago at Beer Revolution in Calgary and I just found the notes. Pours out a murky amberish brown with a thin finger of beige head. A bunch of thick lacing rings disappear slowly. The nose is sweet and malted well with caramel, toffee and lightly spiced notes. An overall good look and nose. The taste has a light sweetness and mild bitterness throughout. A few light caramel and biscuity malts in the middle, a bunch of weird fruity notes and light grassy hops. The body is thin and watery for the style, but an overall great dubbel.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 dresden (517) - Saskatchewan, CANADA - DEC 23, 2011
Pours quite dark with a frothy brown head. Yeasty, with some dried fruit and toffee. This isn’t normally a beer I enjoy, but this is really good. Well done.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Glouglouburp (5545) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 12, 2011
In short: A basic mix of toffee/butterscotch/etc and dark fruits. Decent.
How: Bottle 341ml. Consumed approximately 6 months after the beer release. Bottle sent to me by presario, thanks Trevor
The look: Opaque dark brown body topped by a small beige head leaving lots of lacings on the glass
In long: Nose of typical Belgian dark ale yeast fruity esters along with toffee and butterscotch. Taste is a bit on the sweet side. Hard barley candy, dark butterscotch, toffee, caramel, toasted wheat bread, light nutty notes, prunes, raisins, marmalade, other fruits… After-taste of butterscotch and toffee and fruits. Semi-lively mouthfeel with medium carbonation. I cannot say this is a prime example of the elusive Abbey Dubbel (elusive for North-American brewers) but this was a decent take on the style especially considering that this is coming from a very average brewery. Some say when Paddock Wood brews a new beer the pride of Saskatchewan is at stake. So it’s nice that even though nothing was at stake Paddock Wood still made a decent beer.
2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 JMerritt (1676) - Macomb, Illinois, USA - AUG 14, 2011
Pours a very murky dark brown with a small, light-brown head. Loads of brown sugar and molasses in the nose, little else. Fairly heavy with metallic notes atop some cardboard and lightly toasty malts. Dry, oxidized finish. Thanks to Narnad for another Paddock Wood bottle. I hope this is indeed a 2010 bottle.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sammy (7029) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 7, 2011
Almost cloying dubbel. Unfiltered, dark brown. Yeast and sweetness, rich as it is and likely will get better in a few years. Thanks Presario.
