rederic (1785), montréal, Quebec, Canada Dec 23, 2008 12oz bottle, orange-amber color with a beige head, yeasty, toasty, caramel malt, floral hop leafy, minty, fruity nose of peaches, oranges, tangerine zest and orange peel, with a hint of sweet nittiness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a mild toasty, caramel malt, fruity hop character of grapefruit, lemon, with a flowery leafy, faint piney accent, with a hint of cloverleaf mintiness, leading towards a malty, leafy, grassy, lemony bitterness finish. drjay44 (757), Salida, Colorado, USA Oct 16, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a tightly bubbled head, good retention, decorative lacing, over a dark orange golden, slightly cloudy body....nose is minimally floral, but has some pine and resin to it....initial taste is of hop bitterness which gradually expands on the tongue....mouth feel is OK, but the balance between, hop and malt is off. argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Jul 17, 2008 (12oz bottle, thanks acrdz) Medium beige head atop crystal clear amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, orange/floral, some bread. Taste is medium sweet, orange/grapefruit, some caramel, light floral. APAish. kmweaver (2396), Sebastopol, California, USA Jul 10, 2008 12oz bottle, courtesy of acrdz. Thanks, Mike! Pours a slightly hazy, orange-amber color; light khaki head with fine-bubbled lacing. Lots of earthiness and citrus bitterness in the aroma; slightly lactic tartness; mild infection? It’s on the edge. Medium mouthfeel: good amounts of earthy bitterness and candy sugar malts; more malt-forward than any fully defined hop character; basic, underhopped IPA. Medium finish: bread, some huskiness, and lingering mild citrus bitterness. mj (4971), Colorado, USA Jul 10, 2008 12oz bottle pours light caramel amber in color with a small head. Nose centers mostly on some lightly sweet/hoppy fruits, but there’s a mild yet distinct nut/caramel/bread note that I don’t really dig. The hop bitterness and flavor never really develops into anything appreciable, instead it’s muddled and simple and ultimately a disappointment. ryan (1774), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Jul 9, 2008 Courtesy of arcdz. Hazy amber body with a medium off-white head. The nose pine, apricot, grapefruit and cotton candy. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter with cotton candy, honey, grapefruit, pine and herbs. Medium/full body is round with light carbonation. chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 15, 2008 Toasty and creamy. Almost nutty and almost hairy (in the pleasing and elusive way some ales like Fort Collins Rocky Mountain IPA or GL’s Moondog or E. Ness) manage to combine their hops) It just doesn’t get pulled off and, disturbingly, some sips give me this creepy faint smell and taste of vomit. I do not recall that ever in a brew and I feel fine so it IS the brew. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA May 5, 2008 12 oz. bottle, from Dean at SD BrewCo, courtesy of David, GABC keg master. Pours deep hazy copper color with lots of sediment and a small beige head. Fruity, toasty, earthy aroma with a hint of must, tart cherry, florals and a bit of coffee - this is a really interesting IPA. Toasty, earthy malts, with a bit of burnt caramel, some prune notes, more florals, light citrus and bitter herbs. Medium to medium-full body, minimally tingly.
