Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA May 6, 2004 Stumbled across this one on the western slope of Colorado. Reddish amber with a big sticky, cumulus head. Nice citric aroma. Full-on and lingering grapefruit flavors on par with the best micro IPAs, but perhaps not quite as well balanced. targhee (24), Boulder, Colorado, USA Aug 15, 2006 I tasted this beer in Glenwood, close to Palisades, so it was probably way fresher than that enjoyed by our PA friends. Lovely white head, a bit cloudy. Hops were awesome, very floral up front (maybe they upped the hops in response to the suggestions). A slight hint of sweetness, and nice bitter finish. Honestly, one of the best IPAs I’ve had and I love IPAs (when in the East I love Dogfish 60 and 90 minute and Victory IPA). Maybe RedTruck doesnt travel well (it is an early 50s Chevy you know). Try it again locally. Jamie3233 (2), Glenwood Springs, Colorado, USA does not count Oct 25, 2007 Incredible beer when done right. A victim of over sampling. Better when unfiltered and dry-hopped. Occasionally too dry but definetly the most balanced IPA I’ve ever had. Nice malt, nice hops. HumuloneRed (750), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 12, 2004 Pours a clear copper color with a nice rocky head and thick lacing. Nose of apricots, cherry, citrus, pine. Very balanced malty/fruity flavors with a nice bitter hop finish. Very nice IPA. NeonLX (258), Wisconsin, USA Mar 26, 2004 One of the nicest aromas I've ever encountered--big whiff of pine and aging citrus. Pours a deep amber with good-sized head that never entirely goes away. Decent lacing all the way down to the bottom. Immediate hop blast on top of a decently sweet, malty background. Taste doesn't linger very long so it's time to take another sip--wow, those hops come on strong again.
This one moves right up near the top of my list. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Oct 4, 2004 Updated: Jan 27, 2005Dark Orange. Delicate, vibrant, stunning nose of coffee beans, pine, apricot, resin, grapefruit, oil and cherries. Raw, cutting, glorious and copious amount of hops completely takeover this brew. Toasty, fruity, vanilla, caramel like malts fit in with the massive piney, citrusy, sprucey and woody hop profile. Damn, what a beer! HLGIV (14), Golden, Colorado, USA Mar 2, 2009 Bottle purchased 2/09. Decent hop aroma. Flavor was bitter and floral but not too sweet. I thought this was a fairly well balanced IPA. hopscotch (5440), Vero Beach, Florida, USA May 21, 2009 Bottle… This beer rocks!… Mostly clear, dark amber ale with and orange hue and a small, creamy, khaki head. Good retention. The aroma is caramely, nutty and well-roasted. Wafts of caramel, toffee, praline and earthy hops ascend from the glass. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Like the aroma, the flavor is mainly malt-forward - lots of caramel layered upon toffee and mild chocolate with an earthy bitterness that serves to balance and enhance instead of engulf. Finishes well-balanced and satisfying. Perfect IPA for a malt head like me, but plenty of hop flavor to satisfy almost anyone. India Scotch Ale? Much love and thanks to Tinkerbell for thinking of me during her Colorado beer and mead travels!
