COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
PALM Ale has long been one of Europe’s top-selling specialty beers. Made with English hops, French Barley, and Belgian yeast, PALM represents the best of European beer-making traditions. It’s the roasted Champagne Malt which gives PALM its amber color, but without being heavy. Also available bottle-conditioned as Palm Hergist.

OK beer, nothing special. LCBO bottle, pouring medium yellow hued body with lots of foamy off-white head. A tad funky aroma. Creamy, oily mouthfeel, heavily carbonated. Not super drinkable.

I poured a 330ml can into a tumbler.

Appearance: Dark amber hue, clear body with much carbonation. Forms a small, white, soapy head that mostly fizzles away but does leave some lacing on the glass.

Smell: lager yeast, corn, grain, a bit of skunk and underneath it all some malty sweetness.

Taste: This is a Belgian pale ale? If I were drinking this blind I’d think it’s an Oktoberfest or a bock. Seriously, where’s the hop presence that comes with a Belgian pale? This is a malty beer from start to finish. Caramel, toffee and grain are the dominate flavors with perhaps a corn adjunct flavor often found in American macro lagers. Slight sourness commonly found in European green bottle pilsners too. Not that it’s a disgusting palate, in fact, it’s quite sweet and the malts are enjoyable with a mostly clean finish.

Mouthfeel: Remarkably fizzy and thin for a Belgian ale of this type.

Drinkability: It tastes like a lager and drinks like a lager. Very crisp, and even a little refreshing at fridge temp. As it warms it maintains its fizziness, but grows more sweet and sour. The 5.4% ABV seems right, if not even a little high considering how much this drinks like a macro lager of <5%

Overall, it’s a drinkable beer with some redeeming qualities, but extremely strange considering its style and country of origin.

Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel-amber color with a large creamy orange-white head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was faint tart citrus and bread. The flavor was faint tart citrus, bread, raisin and sugar. The finish was long, tart and fruity. Medium body. Solid.

Pours golden in color with a fruity aroma (bananas and hops maybe?). This was a refreshing beer I had while sitting on the deck. Not bad.

Tap @ some sushi bar: Pours a golden color with a light white head. Nose is lightly yeasty with a touch of biscuit and light herbs. Thin flavor with a zesty finish. Nice easy drinking belgian ale without much of a dominant yeast note.

An amber beer with a beautiful fluffy cream head, though it’s disappearing rather fast. The aroma is sweet, fruity, and malty. Caramel and some banana. Only soft hop aroma. The flavour is soft, sweet and malty, caramel and again some banana. Only slightly bitter and hoppy, but a nice touch. I have good memories of this beer, I drank it a lot when I was young and didn’t appreciate hop bitterness that much yet. You could say it teached me to appreciate beer. Nowadays it’s a bit sweet for my liking and I miss those hops, but still a well made drinkable beer. (from tap)
