2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Countbeer (1686) - Best of Eindhoven ohne Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - NOV 15, 2010
Bottle:
Airy white foamy head on top of a brownish amber colored beer.
Smell mostly malts with a small hint of some dark fruits, sweets and sour.
Taste lot of (toasty) malts, with hints of caramel, yeast, some bitterness and dark fruits leaving an unbalanced malty, slight bitter aftertaste.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 jcr (1622) - Jasper, Indiana, USA - NOV 11, 2010
Bottle. Deep yellow body, clear. Frothy, off-white head, diminishing. Grainy aroma with hints of bread, caramel, citrus. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet, lightly acidic and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body with a watery texture and fizzy carbonation. Much like a mass-market lager, but with flavor and some subtlety. Pleasant and drinkable.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Spab (1118) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 10, 2010
330 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a clear amber-gold with small white head. Aroma is mostly grassy with a little breadiness. Taste is grainy with a grassy finish. Fairly active carbonation. Light-medium body. Ok.
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 jaspe007 (47) - Utrecht/Wageningen, NETHERLANDS - NOV 10, 2010
Bottle. Clear, amber color. Decent head that quickly settles. Aroma has a light sourness and something metallic, not very pleasing. Taste is quite soft, with slightly sweet malts and refreshing hop. Nice carbonation and pleasantly drinkable (thin body), but nothing special either.
2.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Tweeke (34) - Wageningen, NETHERLANDS - NOV 10, 2010
The colour is the only thing I really like about this beer. The aroma is that of malt, some sourness and a hint of yeast. Taste is mainly lightly roasted malts, light hoppy bitterness and a metallic flavour. The body is rather unimpressive, carbonation is okay though. It’s quite easily drinkable, but one Palmke is more than enough for me.

Draft at Ormsby’s. Amber pour. Bready aroma. Bready grainy flavor with light fruit esters. Balanced but uninteresting finish. Light bodied but lively. Overall, simple and a bit boring. I was kind of figuring it to be an run-of-the-mill Belgian Pale Ale, perhaps like De Koninck. That’s pretty much what it is... This one seemed less interesting than De Koninck, but more drinkable (because the De Koninck I’ve had seemed oxidixed - didn’t like the long journey across the Atlantic I guess).
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 avw1982 (70) - NETHERLANDS - NOV 2, 2010
On tap. Nice strong white head. It was very sour. I didn’t expect that. Maybe it was a old fust.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Beer Snob (457) - Ontario, CANADA - OCT 29, 2010
Nice gold pour with a decent and natural head. Well carbonated and a mild scent of malt. Bland with a hint of maltiness and a very slightly sour aftertaste. Decent stuff.
I imagine that if I drank nothing but macros, this ale would be an exciting, revelatory brew. But since I tend to stick with local micro brews and strong and highly-rated imports, Palm comes across as being thoroughly average. It’s all a matter of perspective.
