2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
(Tapped, 5.2% ABV) Nice amber color, small head. Very mild aroma, slightly malty with some spices, maybe juniper. Neutral, malty flavor. Pleasant, but nothing interesting. Oily and slightly sugary, medium-bodied palate reminds me a bit of sahti. Nothing wrong with this, but no reason for retry, either.

1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottle. Sept 2002. Disgusting nose - like rotting leather, damp rust and stale vomit - which creeps over slightly into the taste, which is otherwise quite sweet and pleasant; this is a rather English style beer but much sweeter on first impact, fading down into warm leather and iron. A most curious brew that is spoiled by the dreadful aroma and the sickly sweetness of first impact, but is nevertheless interesting to try. [2.6]
Bottle. Darkish amber with mixed foam and bubble head. Same sort of aroma as experienced nearly two years ago - a sort of vintage malty ale with the cardboard notes that come from a beer bottled off the yeast. It's not revolting, but it's not great either. Ugh. Just tastes like a stale British bitter. Soft caramel sweetness up front. Very poor mouthfeel, like sucking damp cottonwool. Hops are dreadful - stewed and lingering unpleasantly in the finish. The sweetness is like honey - and there's just a bit too much of it lingering around. No - I don't like this at all!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pretty one. Amber-copper with nice head. Quite malty and fruity, nicely balanced. Pleasent mouthfeel. Bottle-wise it's better than de Koninck.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A pleasant and easy drinking pale ale. Quite soft, and low in alcohol for Belgium. About the closest the Belgians get to a straightforward session beer, but very palatable. Van Gogh bar (next door the Oud Arsenaal, which was jam-packed), Antwerp, September 2003.

1.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
Malty and skanky - musty old grain, like rotten rye bread. Dies away to give light metallic, slightly hoppy aroma. Ice tea red-brown, clear, with frothy off-white lacing head. Medium watery body with light carbonation. Starts semi-sweet, watery malts with slight sour grain tang. Some hops show up at the finish to give light bitter ending. Bland watery finish and after. Overall weak and watery brew, reminds me of a watered-down altbier.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tried on draught in Amsterdam. Lovely red colour, and a very mild, barley sugar flavour, but not very exciting, and a bit too sweet.

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Just an average Belgium beer. Brown in color, sweet in taste. Mild in malt taste, not much else.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled, pasteurised. Golden amber with huge head. A big malty flavour with malty sweetness and a spicy undernote. The finish is a little short but it is a good beer to keep by.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
An easy drinking beer that suffers from a lack of flavour. A good dark colour and head make it enjoyable anyway

2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Dark malty lager with little head, and a very sweet dunkel like aroma. A very empty feeling to the flavour with hints of sweetness. Overall a very harsh drink on the tongue, that is fairly tasteless.
