COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
PALM Ale has long been one of Europe’s top-selling specialty beers. Made with English hops, French Barley, and Belgian yeast, PALM represents the best of European beer-making traditions. It’s the roasted Champagne Malt which gives PALM its amber color, but without being heavy. Also available bottle-conditioned as Palm Hergist.

Amber colored beer with an off-white head. Aromas of hops, some sugars, and something foul. Tastes like a mild pale ale. Some malts, tiny bits of candy sugar, pine, and dirty water. Bitter finish that lingers for a while. Very disappointing. I thought this was going to be an amber ale, but it ended up tasting like a low quality IPA. Maybe I got some bad bottles.

Amber with white head. Low carbonation. Bitter sweet and watery. Notes of caramel and citrus.

Bottle at home. Pours a clear amber colour small off-white head. Aromas of lemon peel, pale malt, grains and some caramel. Dried fruit in the flavour along with leather and wood. Light, slick and a bit sparkly mouthfeel, and light bitterness. Decent beer but pretty boring aroma and taste.

The question begs itself to be asked: is palm the budweiser of Belgian beers or is it the natural light? A nervous nation as well as the makers if Stella Artois await the response.

Is this the most overrated thing that has come out of Belgium? Just overpriced I suppose. Also, get with it Ratebeer! Figuring out which beer this really is on a search is almost impossible. Is this to discourage actual honest reviews? Some simple advice: if Palm is the best beer that the bar has, then leave or switch to mixed drinks. Or shots. Don’t be fooled by appearance or price, Belgium should deport these guys.

(draft) Clear amber with large off-white head. Aroma is mildly sweet, raisin, some metallic. Taste is lightly sweet, raisin, some spice. Palate is fairly light, some wateriness.

Not very good. An amber colored beer. Light malt in the aroma and considerable diacetyl in the flavor, but some malt below that. Well carbonated.

Unique flavor leaves a bit of an aftertaste. Hard to describe exactly, but the best I can do is say it seems too sweet. Not bad - certainly drinkable - light and pleasant but nothing special.

UPDATED: JUN 14, 2007 Retasted 14/06/2007. Ghastly - musty, caramelly, cardboard with lightly phenolic character. Tasted 13/12/2005. 330ml bottle from Regional Wines and Spirits. Orange-gold, bright, bubbly. Just off-white, airy, thinning head that laces up strongly. The nose is apples and toffee, at first, then oranges and a slight musty yeastiness. Orange-like chewey malt flavour with soe toffee and a little bit of a metallic finish. Light-medium weight, and softly carbonated in the mouth, but there is a long-lingering astringent harshness that develops later and doesn’t sit all that well with me.

Oxidized cardboard and not much else. My wife bought this is in British Columbia for me. page 350 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide and only 301 of his 500 Classic Brews to go.
