Cask at The Claret. It pours deep amber with a small white head. The nose is earth, light spice, wood and leather. The taste is caramel, wood, butterscotch, berry, earth, leather and some alcohol warmth with a dry finish. Medium body, soft carbonation and viscous mouth-feel. A decent ESB.

Cask at The Old Yark Tapas Bar Darlington. Clear copper amber colour, creamy white head and malty aroma. Taste is caramel, biscuit, yeasty, toffee. Medium smooth body, some bitterness, drinkable bitter.

Bottled. Clear red-brown colour, with small off-white head. Fresh floral aroma. Medium bodied malt flavours to start, with a slighty bitter, resin finish.

Clear medium to dark amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light light heavy malty, caramel, burnt toffee, burnt caramel, light roasted. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, burnt notes, nutty notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20100805]

Cask, Melton Fest 10. Dark amber with an off-white head. Aromas are toffee and fudge with pear and chocolate. Citrus with floral aspects and melon. Flavours are sweet weetabix and chocolate with tart citrus. Melon and earthy hops with floral aspects and spicy hops. Decent.

Cask@GBBF2010. Amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is fruity, nectary, tropical fruity juicy along with some mild toffeeish notes. Flavour is fruits, toffee, nectar and some grass. Pretty dry and bitter finish.

3 Soft palate, carbonation low. Apple flaws in the finish.

From cask. Pours cloudy dark orange with a small and lacing white head. Aroma is caramelish and butter. Rather malty flavoured with a distinct butterish note. Sweet and caramelish finish. Ends dry.

13th July 2010. Chelmsford Beer Festival. Clear amber beer with a little suddy white head. Some sulfur on the nose! Light semi dry palate. Fresh dry fruit with some toffee malt. Tastes okay but the nose is very offputting!

This is awful can’t stand these complex heavy tasting ales. There is flavours of caramel and a dark roasted nutty flavour but it feels old and stale. nasty.
