Heavy on the hops. Good head, reasonable lacing. While a solid pour, the overly hoppy overtones bothered me and made it a poor paring for sea food.

Light amber-blonde. Breezy bitter nose. Mild, lightly bitter-hopped flavor. Rather thin. Muted grain and breezily hoppy amber/pale ale.

Amber Ale is Palmetto’s most popular and best brew. The color is typical of the style. It is a fairly thick brew. I love the body and malt character. The hops are expertly balanced too. I crave this sometimes but distribution is very limited.

Enjoyed from bottle while eating at Coast Bar & Grill in Charleston, SC. Appearance a clear moderate amber with a thin white head. Aroma mostly malty, light caramel. Taste is decent, mainly malty, very similar to fat tire with out the crisp finish.

Originally reviewed: 8/4/08. Poured a dark red color with just a slight rim of lacing around the top. Smell was floral, and a little charred scent. Taste was not there for me. Smooth and crisp, but I wasn’t finding the flavors that I usually look for in a good red/amber. Some charred flavor to go with the smell; some hops. Finish was bitter, but clean.
Was an ok brew, but not one I’d necessarily recommend.
