Amber Ale is Palmetto’s most popular and best brew. The color is typical of the style. It is a fairly thick brew. I love the body and malt character. The hops are expertly balanced too. I crave this sometimes but distribution is very limited.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Well as I've decided that I'm giving up beer for Lent this year, this may be my last beer and my last beer review for a while. I think I made a wise choice going local for this last hurrah with Palmetto's Amber Ale. A refreshing and drinkable brew, pours a pleasant clear amber with lots of natural foam and lacing. Has an appetizing caramel malt aroma. Taste is malty and finishes with a mildly-earthy bitterness. Subtle dark chocolate flavor if you look for it. Strikes me as very "fresh" tasting. Solid bitterness but not really hoppiness, almost tastes more like a brown ale. Very pleasant, I am impressed overall. South Carolina needs more quality local brews like this.

At the club before dinner. draft. Light orange, too cold for much aroma but bread dominated. Quite smooth, similar to a Sam Boston Lager but less hop. Overall solid. Nothing too complex.

A: Hazy Amber/mild Golden Straw hue, creamy Off White Head, Great Lacing
S: Very Malty, mild Citrus, mild Chocolate
T: Smooth, Malty, mildly Sweet, Raisins
M: Well Carbonated, Medium Bodied, Dry, Malty Sweetness coating
Overall, probably one of the smoothest and great tasting amber ales I have had in quite a long time. I look forward to trying some of their other offerings.

A bit like a dry red. Caramel notes, mild hop presence. Toasted malt character gives it a yeasty, bread taste and mouthfeel--just what I look for in a red or amber!

Draft at crazy crab. If I had to guess I'd say the beer lines haven't been cleaned recently and they served it in a frozen mug but other than that it appeared ok. A but hoppy for an amber I thought.

Aromas of caramel, slight chocolate, honey, and bread. Mostly clear orange-amber with a mostly fading, off-white head. Off-dry with a nice, balancing amount of bitterness, and flavors of honeyed, bready malts, and grassy, somewhat floral hops. Light-medium bodied, crisp, and clean.

12 oz bottle purchased as a single at Growler’s Craft Beer & Ales in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The pour is a hazed gold orange with an off white head. The aroma is dirty toast malt, and a bit of chemical sweetness in the back. The taste is basically the nose, with dirty malt up front and the weird synthetic sweet in back. The chemical dirty really lingers. The palate is light bodied, a bit watery, tasted like it may have had a bit of an infection.
