The gold-colored Palmetto Charleston Lager is perhaps the company’s cleverest creation; it’s strong in flavor, crisp, with a fresh, clean finish (i.e., no lingering aftertaste), but light enough so you could drink it just about all day. Yeast and a cool fermentation are what make a lager a lager, and Palmetto’s is among the smoothest, mellowest around.

Bottle. Slightly sour malt and hops aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Barley malt, grass flavor with moderate hops - slight corn flavor as well but not . Very smooth and less grainy than many lagers. Very nice.

(Draught) Pours a clear golden body with a small white head. Aroma of mild hops with flavor of garssy and floral hops. Somewhat bitter finish.

The way a classic lager should be, great and like 5 bucks a sixer. Really prob. not extraordinary in any way, but it’s the best brewery in SC.

I don’t much care for lagers but I ordered this one because it was the only remaining beer that I had not tried at the bar in South Carolina. Adequate, which makes it quite nice for a lager. Really good color and balance between the golden beer and the white head. Not strongly hopped, but at least the floral hops did not run rampant over the bitter hops or the malt. Average mouthfeel, but above average lager appearance and above average lager balance and flavor.

Pours dark yellow with a small white head. The brilliant waitress brought me this instead of the Palmetto Amber, oh well, at least she was hot. This beer is light all around, taste, aroma, appearance, mouthfeel. Thin body. Nothing offensive which makes it decent for a lager.

12 oz bottle: Pale golden w/a short lived white head, like big soap bubbles. Speaking of big soapy bubbles, it goes w/ the aroma. Lemony citrus & dish soap as well as lightly grassy hop. Slighly papery which is probably my fault, I should have had this a month ago. Clean otherwise. Well balanced but with hints of sourness up front from papery oxidation. Clean aside from oxidation and has hints of floral hop. Finish is dry and bland; short lived aftertaste is lightly grainy malt.. Light body, higher level of carb. and lightly dry m/f. Probably a little out of date! Seems a little boring, but age could have something to do with that. Very clean beer, I should have rated earlier to avoid oxidation.

Golden yellow, small white head. Muted aroma, light lemony hops. Fairly moderate flavour, some hops but nt a lot and some limpid citrus notes. Muddled. Shared with Tupalev.

Bottle, brought back from my in-laws trip. Slightly grainy aroma. Gold coloured pour, small white head. Thin mouthfeel. Pretty standard micro lager here - no offensive tastes or anything, but not exactly screaming flavour either. No appreciable bitterness or really any of the grain hints in the aroma. I could see sipping on this in the summer, but I was pretty disappointed overall.

Ahhhh...nothing like a trip to S. Carolina to relax the mind. These quality brews from Palmetto fit the bill nicely while chillaxin’ in Charleston. The lager is light with some light floral/herbal bitterness.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2005 Nice lager, nice color, light citrus, malt, yeast. Could have used more hops i thought. Had it in H.H.S.C. good local brew.
