3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
pours black with an off white head that quickly disappears. the aroma is roasty, with strong coffee notes. the flavor is roasted barley, caramel, and strong after tones of coffee on the finish. As the palate is a thin to medium body, that finished smooth, with very little bitterness. Overall this is pretty good.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is my first try at this type of beer but it definitely was enjoyable. First had it on draft at a local oyster roast so temperature may have something to do with the aroma and overall taste. Also bought a 6 pack at the local grocery store and the taste was not as pronounced as the draft. Coffee lover so this was right up my alley with the expresso.

Some coffee aroma. Mouthfeel is flat and fairly thin bodied for a porter. Not much coffee taste compared to other coffee based beers.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The aroma is chocolate cookie dusting. Hazelnut and coffee grounds. Sweet caramel.
The appearance is glassy reddish-brown. Thin-bodied, not too substantial.
The flavor is like when coffee grounds fall into the mug. A little nutty, but with a sweet toffee undertone. It’s sweet with some cold coffee elements.
The palate is buttery and oily. Similar to a brown ale. Drinkable but much sweeter than expected. Iced coffee.

Palmetto makes a tasty coffee porter, a beer I find quite underrated in its home town. Espresso Porter strikes a solid balance between English porter and coffee, neither sweet and fruity nor acidic and burnt-tasting. A little more body would bolster the beer, but other than that, there’s not much to complain about. Plus, this beer makes a perfect way to start someone’s transition from coffee-drinker to dark beer-drinker.
