Very tasty porter. Not overly espresso taste or overly filling. Great to have with dinner.

4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle courtesy Fratto. Pours a cloudy maroon color with a light beige head. Aroma is lovely. Espresso beans, chocolate notes, heavily roasted, freshly roasted coffee ground. Flavor is also roasted coffee, bitter notes, chocolate malts. Aroma is better than the flavor. Still very good.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a dark brown with a small tan head that fades rather quickly. Huge aroma of fresh coffee, chocolate and toffee. Taste of iced coffee and bittersweet chocolate up front with hints of black liquorice and dark fruit. Somewhat thin on the palate with a bit too much carbonation. Finish is a slightly bitter (but nice) coffee taste that lingers for a few moments. Definitely recommended for the Porter fans out there! Very well done.

First beer I had in Charleston. Deliciously balanced chocolate and coffee character. Rich, rather than sweet.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bought a 12fl oz bottle of this @ The QuarterDeck in Sea Pines Resort (Hilton Head Island, SC) for $5. Poured from the Red/Orange/Yellow Labeled bottle w/ a Palmetto tree on the front into a 12oz Tulip Glass. Has no sign of a freshness date on the bottle.
Aroma- Very roasty and has a very unfamiliar coffee aroma. Must be their local roaster blended into the brew.
Appearance- Pours a .5 finger head that dies almost immediately. Has a deep, opaque brown body and leaves a few suds behind on the glass.
Flavor- Very malty and coffee roast apparent as well. Has a sweet beginning to end taste and a light bitterness level.
Mouthfeel- Light-Medium Bodied, Medium Carbonation, Roasty, and has one of the highest Coffee/Roast endings of any porter I’ve had to this day! Very nice!
Overall Impression- Wow! For not ever hearing about this Porter, the coffee ending was huge! Highly recommend for those porter fans and looks like this one is widely available in SC.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 13, 2015 On tap poured into a shaker. Mocha like smells of sweet coffee and milk chocolate and lactose sugar come through, but they?re fairly mellow. It pours a dark, opaque brown-black body topped by a medium tan ring with a runny lace. A medium sweetness is supported by a light bitterness. The texture is watery and slick, with very little help from a mostly flat carbonation. The medium body finishes with smooth mocha notes, supported by caramel, and a hint of nuttiness and a spicy clove note. The finish is mostly espresso in flavor and grittiness with a clove cleanliness. The aftertaste is dry and clean spice.

Pours dark mahogany with a small tan head. Aroma is all coffee. Taste is like an espresso with a kick. Nice coffee bitterness with a creamy mouth feel. A delicious porter.

6 pack from Piggly Wiggly St. John’s Island. Looks like a porter sure enough. The aroma gets me hopeful with its genuine, deep coffee character. It’s not as sharp as typical espresso, but a little earthier like Asian coffee. The palate is a little thinner than I expected, but not too bad. The sharpness I expect from espresso is more detected after a sip. It grinds my gears when coffee stouts or porters are too weak or unnatural. This one gets the right idea. Even though tasty coffee is the main attraction, there is still detectable malt quality which reminds me that its beer. This is a really solid offering from Palmetto. Big props. Wish I could buy 6 packs of this back home in the winter.

Very dark with a lot of coffee flavor. Thick but with no head. The nose had a bit of hops but mostly dominated by coffee, leather and malt notes. It had a decent mouthfeel, not too smooth, and finished quickly. If you like coffee -- really like coffee- then check it out. If you’re not a coffee fan, stay away.
