Aroma of chocolate and fruitiness that you would expect from a porter. Easily the best you wouold get from South Carolina.

Bottled. Poured a translucent black with a small khaki head. The aroma of this one REEKS of chocolate, and the flavor was very chocolately with a slight milk/creme background. This is great, but a little more chocolate or cream would make it totally unbelieveable. A good ale.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown hue with a medium tan head and good lace. Aroma hints of espresso, bittersweet chocolate, plum, and smoked wood. Got a initial sweetness followed by a big hit of bitter. Some mild fruity twang and smoky undertones. Lingering bitterness and dry finish. A well put together porter, enough snap to make it interesting. Another thanks to Matt.

Roasty, slightly burnt, grainy malt aroma, some strong coffee notes and semi-sweet chocolate. Dark ebony in color with a fine, tan head. Roasty coffee malt flavor, with dark chocolate and dark brown sugar sweetness along with a pleasant, balancing bitterness, seemingly both from malt and hops. Finish is bittersweet. Thin, smooth mouthfeel. Very tasty. Thanks, Matt.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown colour, about 95% opaque with only a little of the brown showing up when held to a light. Thin (1 centimetre) tan head. A very nice aroma consisting of coffee, pit fruit, roasted malt and even a subtle sweetness. Full-bodied; Strong coffee flavours all the way through breaking down to some malt characteristics followed by a bit of the sweetness (primarly from raisins). Aftertaste actually fairly bland compared to the depth of the taste and only minimally bittering the mouth. Overall, a great porter, most likely one of the best i've had. If you can find this beer, definately pick one up...but as mabdoney mentioned-'He must share the wealth' and that he did...I got my twelve ounce bottle from him in a trade, thanks Matt!

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2003 Oh, to think such a fantastic beer could be made in the South. While on vacation in Charleston, I bought the last 6 pack that Harris Teeter had in stock, Thank God I got it and not some other numb nuts, this is the shit!
** A porter that pours black as a cloudy night, the head is virtually nil. The aroma and flavor are of coffee, chocolate malt, and raisins, Oh Baby I Love it, sweet beginning then BAM, with a bitter finish! This is really a top notch Porter, one of the best I will ever have.
I must share the wealth!

Color sits as darkish brown/black with a light brown, pencil width high head of light bubbly froth, faded slowly and leaves some stringy lace. Smells of dark or burnt-like roasty malts, slight coffeeish with molasses, dark fruit, and banana notes hinting with big wiffs. Taste is heavy and thick right off the bat, its slightly tanged of deep roasted malt, has some smokey/burnt dryness of coffee and has a twinge of a chocolate note. Everything in the flavor is favorably mellowing and easy, deep and dark with the bitterness and sweet tangs located mostly in the front. The feel is pretty full, solid medium body, and has a pretty strong texture of tangy roughness much like that of orange juice pulp, but is calm enough and pleasurable to a point.

Very dark brown rather than black, small head, and not much aroma. Chocolat flavors evident, fairly bitter finish. This is a nice porter, I would drink it again.

This has possibly the weakest aroma of any porter I have tried. However, the taste is definately there. It isn’t very sweet and I would have to agree with venom that it has a very earthy feeling to it. It was one of the most bitter porters I have tried. I liked it a lot and would drink it again.
