Bottle… Pitch black beer with a mid-sized, frothy, beige head. Great retention. Chocolaty aroma with lesser notes of cola and toasted pistachios. Medium to full-bodied with a whole-milk mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Leans toward the burnt and bitter side of balance with lots of bittersweet dark chocolate and a charcoal undercurrent. Finishes bittersweet and chocolaty with very mild, cardboard-like oxidation. Bottle courtesy of TheBeerCellar!

Bottle from TheBeerGod. Thanks! Also, my first South Carolina beer. Pours a medium brown with a small head. Chalky, earthy, slightly mocha aroma. Taste is very much peat and dirt. A hint of sweetness. A little thin.

Any first impressions?
-A ring resides around the opaque black.
-Rich black beans fill up the roastiness, for a tell-tale aroma of nourishment.
-Dark chocolate and roastiness coalesce in a simple but effective way.
-The creamy maltiness yields a rich body with a balanced use of the flavor spectrum.
What if you dig deeper?
-Citrusy, herbal hoppiness peers through the muscular roastiness, which whispers vegetal tones at times.
-Molasses deepen the dark chocolate’s sweetness.
-The dry and bitter ending comes from the friendly union of roasted maltiness and wooden hoppiness.
-This folks is a truly solid porter, nothing more, nothing less.
Bottle; no date.

Thanks to Ross for this one, which I believe breaks my South Carolina cherry. Pours dark brown with 1-finger tan head and not much lacing. Aroma of roast patent malt, big chocoff, prunes, molasses, some nuts. Tastes dark patent malty, with chocoff, molasses, brown sugar, and some slight smoked almond and hop hints. Nice complexity. Well done!
