nearbeer (1330), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jan 31, 2008 Updated: May 21, 200812 oz. Opaque black with a five-finger head that leaves a sticky frosting on the glass. Elements of coffee, chocolate, smoke, dry earth, and wood in the aroma. Coffee, molasses and milk chocolate front turns just enough to the smoky, oxidized, dry cocoa, and peppery herb flavors to provide an excellent counter to the big malt flavors. Smooth body is a tad larger than medium, slightly oily and finishes with just the right dry touch. Awesome porter for a single or a session. jetboy (32), USA Feb 8, 2008 This was a home run. Awesome coffee color with a carmel beige head that was at least three fingers and never went away. Lacing on the glass was prominent. Strong coffee taste. Really enjoyed the roasted maltiness. I will be drinking more of this gem from the low-country. SC Proud y’all. jjpm74 (3110), Stratford, CT 06614, Connecticut, USA Oct 24, 2006 Bottle from Ross. Pours a nice ruby red/brown with a tan persistent craemy head. Smells of sweet malt, dark fruit, spices, chocolate and hints to cherries. Taste is of chocolate and tinges of coffee beans with some earthy hops and spicy elements. Mouthfeel is thick and oily. The finish is of bitter chocolate and mellow tartness.
