We at Palo Alto Brewing love working with our local community. When Kiley from Mollie Stone’s Craft Beer Program wanted us to make a special collaboration brew for Mollie Stone’s, we were excited. Hostage DIPA is an IPA that will change hops as the seasons change. What will remain the same is the aggressive hop flavor and aroma, high quality, and availability limited to your Mollie Stone’s Market’s.

Check out which hops are in the Hostage you are drinking...
Batch #1 — Flavoring and Aroma Hops: An unnamed hybrid with a majority blend of Simcoe and Cascade hops.

Poured medium amber with a minimal off white head. Aroma of bitter hops and caramel malt. Medium body, flavour is pretty bitter and lightly malty. Got the feeling the keg was old and the fruity hops and gone. Will re-rate if seen again.

Keg at Mother Kellys, Bethnal Green. I’ve never heard of this lot. Picked on a hunch, from an impressive beer list, but can’t imagine any beer in the whole place would have been as good as this. Absolutely blinding. Thick, flexible malts - toffee and sweet width. Banging hop blend - fruity and bitter and massive. Fabulous.

12th Dec 2014: another surprise to see at the 22 Tap takeover at Galopper des Jahres in Hamburg. Poured an amber colour with a thin white head. Aroma was fairly sweet, with a Rye twist, bready with a caramel hint, all with a mild citrus undertone. The taste followed the same path, Rye Flavours and bready with a mixed bag of fruit sprinckled with some caramel pieces. The finish a pleasant drying and slightly bitter affair.

650 ml bottle. Pours a dark golden amber colour with a small head. Aroma of apricot, caramel and some grassy bitterness. Flavour of sweet caramel notes, floral hops, some grass, heavy maltiness, mild berry notes and apricot and earth. Surprisingly heavy maltiness here. Not as fresh I hoped for.

This golden brown beer fills the air with a sweet aroma as it pours. It has a sweet yet smokey and complex flavor. It is an amazingly interesting beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
