COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
If there were ever a beer that so quintessentially captures the spirit of the primordial past on planet Earth, it has to be the Hop Nest Monster. Bursting with the aroma of the American Amarillo hop, like the eruption of a great and tempestuous volcano, the Monster makes a bold and intimidating impression even before it reaches the palate. As an all-malt American IPA, over an entire pound per barrel of fragrant and floral Amarillo hops are added to the brew kettle during the final minutes of the boil. This process is known as late-kettle hopping.

Bottle from Belmont Party. Poured a clear golden color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate citrus hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium bitter flavor with a medium bitter finish of moderate duration. This is an above average brew.

A hazed blonde IPA with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, strange butterscotch and strawberries, with light putrid notes. In mouth, a sweet corn malt with light herbaceous hops, buttery, not very good. On tap at the Istmus Beer and Cheese, Jan 21 2012.

Orange pour with a white head. Nose is cheesy and buttery. Grass and overcooked vegetables, a bit of pine, sweet bread, and water. What a nose. The flavor is more of the same. Tastes like cheese and boiled broccoli. Some butter added for good measure. Sweet bread, water, pine, and a very light bitterness. Garbage.

Pours turbid orange with 2-finger white head. Nose is caramel malt, hopcitrus, black pepper, tangerine. Tastes very hoppy, with a solid caramel malt backbone, and a lot of black epeppery and tangerinety citrus notes that balance out well. This one is delicious.

Bottle from Craft, labeled as "Lilja’s Hop Ness Monster". Poured turbid orange with 2-finger off-white head. Nose is caramel malt, heavy hops, tropical citrus, peppery, a rich palate, nicely complex, and a beer I tried to find again, but it was all gone. Shit!

Bottled. Poured medium orange with a respectable cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up distant earthy and floral hops over a sweetened-up caramel base.. not nearly enough resiny greenery to stand up to the name, but it wasn’t bad overall. The flavor carried through that theme.. some mostly floral bitterness on all facets of the drink, but sweet caramel and bready pale malts were too big of players.. a muddled blend of those components stuck on the ideally-carbonated finish. Medium-bodied with a good mouthfeel on the palate.. unfortunately the beer didn’t live up to its name, though.

Pours a somewhat cloudy dark yellow color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes slowly. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, citrus and malt. Medium body with flavors of citrusy hops, caramel and grainy malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a short fruity hops aftertaste. Just average overall.

77IBU, 7%ABV, my lucky beer? I’d give you the answer in an adage. You can’t judge a book by its cover. Bottle at SR. Pours a golden body with a mostly white head. Hoppy and butter y all at once, being a big fan of Amarillo i was pretty disappointed here. Big bitter body, light cardboard and butter y bread y tones. A touch floral and musky but seems more plagued by oxidation and incomplete fermentation? Big bitter warmth lingering. Something went wrong here for sure. On a side note i did like the artwork, which looks better in person then as depicted above.
