12 oz bottle. $1.67 in mix-a-6 at Binnyís, Dec 2011. Chocolate and coffee3 roast nose. Pillowy brown head that lingers for quite a while. Solid black color. Manages to keep a low carbonation level suited for this style. But the first sip is very harsh and astringent. Let it sit to answer some Tweets, come back to find itís mellowed a little, but still has a bitter coffee character. I just canít get behind it. Properly bitter to mark the Blackhawks season ending tonight, I guess.

bottle @ Jungle Jimís / Eastgate OH --- Opaque dark brown, frothy tan head, sprays of lace. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Taste is assertive burnt roasted malt that adds chocolate and coffee as it moves to medium, but aggressive carbonation on the swallow, followed by light bittering in a long finish. Heavy on the bitter side, right from the beginning, but, not bitter from hops. A decent brew that has a light body, and a full, powerful taste.

Middle of the road stout. Pours dark with foamy tan head. Overly carbonated for my liking, gave a mouth feel of a bud light. The taste is pretty good, but nothing special. Again pretty middle of the road in my opinion. Would probably pass more as a porter than a true stout.

Bitter and slightly tart. Not sure if this is a bad bottle or if this is what it is supposed to taste like.

12oz bought somewhere along the road in WI, 09/2013. Pours exquisitely rich coffee with rich espresso crema. Tangy aroma of liquorice and filter coffee, continued in taste, only getting more riche and chocolate-full as it warms, with a thinner liquid tobacco edge. Very well balanced, up until the dry roast finish.

From a bottle. Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head. Tastes like bitter coffee, burnt toast, with some strong, tangy yeast flavor. Light/medium body and carbonation. Smells like a nutty, roasted coffee.
